The Citizen, 1989-10-11, Page 21Huronview admissions restricted After delaying the decision a month, Huron County Council Thursday adopted a policy that will freeze admissions to Huronview until the number of residents is reduced to meet the space available in the new two-site Huronview. Currently Huronview has 180 extended care beds and another 75 residents living in residential care rooms. In addition there are 32 patients in hospitals in the county who are awaiting extended care beds. The new Huronview will have a total of 184 extended care beds and 40 alternate housing units (apart ments). Currently there are 27 residents among the 75 in residen tial care who would qualify for the alternate housing units and another 48 would require nursing and personal care. Thus, the committee said, an additional 40 residents would be required to go into extended care under the new set-up and by the time the new buildings are opened, some of the 27 who now qualify for alternate housing might required extended care service. The problem for Huronview management is to match the num ber of people needing extended care treatment when the new homes open, to the space available. The policy adopted by council will place a freeze on admissions until resident population is at 180 extended care beds and 40 alter nate housing spaces and maintain that level until the new homes are open. Huronview will, however, still accept residents on vacation care for up to 30 days and will consider admission for others un der “extremely extenuating cir cumstances”. i Business THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1989.
