The home will be run by both Mr. Beattie (right) and Neil Elliott (left). Mr. Tasker will continue to live above the Funeral home and run the Sears Order office. Lloyd Tasker has sold the Tasker Funeral Home to David Beattie of Clinton after 39 years of service to the Blyth area. Mr. Tasker will remain involved in the running of the funeral home in an advisory capacity said Mr. Beattie who will be operating the home along with Neil Elliott, a former resident of Blyth who now lives in Clinton. The building that houses the Tasker Funeral Home on Queen Street in Blyth, was built in 1906 by the Blyth’s first undertaker, Joseph H. Chellew. Mr. Chellew’s son, Stanley succeeded his father in the business and sold it in 1947 to James Lockwood. Three years la ter, in 1950, he sold the business to Lloyd and Jean Tasker. Mr. Tasker was bom in Blyth in the building housing the present Sears Canada Ltd. order office and has lived on the main street in Blyth for most of his life. He now lives in the apartment above the funeral home. In the early days of the funeral business, funerals were conducted from the private home of the deceased and Mr. Tasker operated in similar fashion until 1952 when he opened the village’s first funeral home in the building which had housed the village post office (now Sears). He also ran Tasker’s Furni ture Store which was two doors north from the funeral home. In July 1978, Taskers closed the furniture store and renovated the 72 year old structure. The doors opened again in November of that year to a modern funeral home. At the same time, the Sears office was moved into the front of the original post office building. Mr. Tasker still plans on operat ing the Sears office and he says he’s only semi-retiring. He will continue to live in the apartment above the funeral home. Blyth. People Doris and Harold McClinchey, Mary and Lloyd Walden returned recently from an enjoyable nine- day trip. On June 24 they attended the wedding of Raymond Jennings, son of Bob and Shirley Jennings of Kalkaska, Michigan. After a short visit they continued their trip up and across northern Michigan into Northern Wisconsin and Minne sota, crossing the border at Fort Frances. Here they visited with Walter and Eunice Cunningham and sons Kelly and Rodney Cunn ingham, (grandsons of Lloyd and Mary). They returned home by northern Ontario, crossing to Tobermory on the new ferry nick named “Little Sister’’ to the Chee- Cheemaun. It doesn’t take any large trucks or sports cars, but can carry over 700 passengers besides cars, small trucks and motorcycles. It just started on Friday, June 30. There seems to be no problems now in getting a crossing. There are six each day. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Longman and family of London visited on the weekend at the home of the former’s parents’ Mr. and Mrs. Carl Longman.
