Phone 887-9487 Edgar Wightman feted on 80th birthday Relatives, friends and neigh­ bours gathered at the Belgrave Women’s Institute Hall on Satur­ day, April 8 to honour Edgar Wightman on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Immediate family members from Tornto, Bolton, Brampton, Fergus, Sebringville, Corunna, Hanover, and Lucknow began the evening with a bountiful supper and Open House and dance with music by Tiffin’s Orchestra was enjoyed by many friends and neighbours. Guests were present from Missis­ sauga, Lucknow, Wingham, Blue­ vale, Brucefield, Kitchener, Kin­ loss, Seaforth, Blyth and surround­ ing communities. 16 tables at Belgrave euchre Sixteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, April 5. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Garner Nicholson; low lady, Mrs. Harvey Edgar; second high lady, Mrs. Mel Jacklin; most lone hands, Mrs. Edith Coultes; high man, Mrs. Bert Johnston (playing as a man); low man, Wilford Caslick; second high man, Lloyd Appleby; most lone hands, Albert Quipp. There will be euchre again Wednesday, April 12 starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. WMSsees book display The Women’s Missionary Society held its meeting in Knox Presybterian Church, Belgrave, Monday, April 3 with Mrs. Gamer Nicholson presiding. Mrs. Nicholson used the devo­ tions in the Glad Tidings assisted by Mrs. Mac Scott; Mrs. Robena McBumey and Mrs. Ivy Cloakey. Mrs. Nicholson read the hymn, “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”. Mrs. McBumey read a poem “Envy” and Mrs. Nicholson led in prayer. Mrs. Cloakey read the poem, “Easter”. Collection was dedicated, the secretary’s report given by Mrs. McBumey and the treasurer’s re­ port by Mrs. Cloakey. Thirty visits to sick and shut-ins were recorded. Mrs. Nicholson will go to the Synodical in Woodstock April 18- 19. The Presbyterial meeting will be held in Ripley May 8. A letter was read from Joy Randall who is a Missionary in Taiwan. The. hymn “Crown Him with many Crowns” was read. Mrs. Nicholson closed the meeting with prayer. A book display was held at the home of Mrs. Joe Dunbar, follow­ ing the meeting. Belgrave people Mr. Alex Nethery, Miss Norma Nethery and Mrs. Dorothy Kerr, all of Hamilton visited with Mrs. Bertha Cook of Brookhaven, Wing­ ham and Annie and Wes Cook of Belgrave on Wednesday, April 5. Mr. Harold Keating spent Easter weekend with his sister Mrs. Stanley Snell of London, also visiting at the same home was Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Blair and son Jeffery of Picton. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas and Alicia of London spent the weekend with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. We have tasted different kinds of breads. We had a sand­ wich contest. All we had to do was make a sandwich that would go in one of the categories. The winners were: “Wake Up Sandwich”, first, Carla Cook; second, Heather Keller; third, Michelle Freiburger; third, Brad Ramsey. “Anything Goes!”, first, Vaughn Vincent; second, JoAnn Mason; third, Chanda Casemore; third, Adam Trotter; fourth, Tracy Robinson. “Big Four Plus Iron”, first, Victor Buchanan; first, Shannon Embling; second, Amanda Young; third, Todd Walker; fourth, Jenni­ fer Black. “Vegetarian’s Delight”, first, Erin Cook; second, Angie Whar­ ton. We also did sandwich activities. What fun we had. Grade One have been working hard at their addition and subtrac­ tion facts to 10. Their buddies have been a big help. They have been reading lots of books. Some child­ ren have read between 30 and 40 books! Super! The grade 7/8 students have started their games unit again with their grade 2 buddies. The second Quest Skills For Adolescence Par­ ents Meeting was held on Monday, April 3. Our class is almost finished the Quest program for this year.
