Grey Township Council held its
regular meeting on February 13,
and several by-laws were passed by
Council.
A by-law was passed which set
the 1989 rates and remunerations
for Township staff and officials.
By-laws were also passed which
appointed the Cranbrook Commun
ity Centre Board and the Moncrieff
Community Hall Board. The follow
ing people were appointed to the
Cranbrook Board: Gary Evans,
Eleanor Stevenson, Jack Knight,
Brenda Perrie, Allan Fretz, Harold
Bragg, Helen Cullen and Graeme
MacDonald. The following people
were appointed to the Moncrieff
Board: Hugh Crawford, Ken Bail-
lie, Robert Harrison, Lyle Petta-
piece, Doug Rathwell, Lillian
Smith, Ruby Naylor, Graeme Mac
Donald and Dale Newman.
Council authorized grants of
$500 to the Town and Country
Homemakers, $125 to the Blyth
Festival and $50 to the Huron
County Farm and Safety Associa
tion.
The 1989 insurance package
from Frank Cowan Company Limit
ed was accepted. The total premi
um of $13,371 represents a de
crease of approximately 18 per cent
from the 1988 premium.
Council set a 1989 road budget of
$641,000 to be submitted to the
Ministry of Transportation. Major
projects for 1989 include road
construction on sideroad 30-31,
concession 1, road construction on
concession 7-8, and the purchase of
a tractor. Council also decided that
a supplementary application would
be submitted on the balance of the
1988 grader.
Sunshine Unit
studies S. Africa
The Sunshine Unit of the Blyth
U.C.W. met on Feb. 16 in the
church parlor, with 19 members
present.
Dorothy Daer and Ida Proctor
were in charge of the worship and
took as their theme, “Love”. The
table was tastefully decorated with
a red cloth and valentines in
keeping with Valentine’s Day.
Mary Holland continued on in
the study of South Africa and
reviewed a story from the January
Observer, entitled, “Churches
against Aparthied.” It was the
story of a minister from Hamilton
who visited South Africa and saw
first-hand the suffering the blacks
are enduring. They feel they have
no where to turn except the church
and they are doing what they can.
Co-leader Bea Chambers took
over the business and thanked all
who had taken part and read a
poem entitled “The Cross in my
Pocket”. After the roll call was
taken and reports read, Bea
announced the “World Day of
Prayer” March 3 to be held in the
Catholic Church in Blyth.
Grace was sung and a lovely
lunch followed served by several of
the ladies.

whole trail would be astronomical.
The taxpayer should not be expect
ed to pay for these costs.
By returning the land along this
corridor to the people whose pro
perty it bisects, the financial bur
dens are spread over numerous
parties who have a self interest in
the property, rather than one
particular group/committee who
will ultimately depend on the
Government (i.e. the taxpayer) for
funding.

Council was informed that fund
ing from the Ministry of the
Environment has been received for
a blue box program in the Town
ships of Grey and McKillop. The
Ministry of the Environment has
provided the funding for a pilot
program which involves the distri
bution of blue boxes in municipali
ties without curbside pickup. The
blue boxes have arrived and the
details with respect to the distribu
tion will be finalized in the next
several weeks.
Council was also informed by the
Township of Morris of their inten
tions of withdrawing from the
present operation of the Walton
landfill sitcf. Council appointed
Howard Hackwell as the Grey
Township representative to the
Seaforth Community Hospital
Board.
At an earlier meeting, Chief
Building Official Eugene McAdam,
gave his 1988 building permit

of the 1988 construction permits
