Crusaders maul Arthur in playoff series sweep BY LOIS McARTER Brussels Intermediates travelled to Arthur on Friday night for the first game in their best three out-of-five series in playoff hockey. Arthur opened the scoring spree after just 3:21 had been played in the first period with a short-handed goal. Dave Montgomery rebounded for the Crusaders in just 54 seconds for Brussels to tie the score on a pass from Brian Tenpas and Troy Poacluyka. The Crusaders scored three goals in the next three minutes as Dave Montgomery scored from Troy and Gord Hutchinson to go ahead. Then Len Stamper scored from Brian Tenpas, with Trevor Pocaluyka adding the fourth goal assisted by Troy and Dave Mont­ gomery. Arthur scored at the 5:34 mark and the period ended 4-2 in Brussels favour. A wide open second period had the Crusaders scoring seven unan­ swered goals. Brian Deitner and Dave Montgomery each scored two while Rob Cardiff, Gord Hutchin­ son and Troy Pocaluyka scored singles. Assists went to Ken Hig­ gins (3), Dave Stephenson (2), Rob Cardiff (2), Dave Montgomery (2), Gord Hutchinson, Brian Tenpas, Paul Montgomery, Troy Pocaluyka. Two and a half minutes into the third period had Dave Montgomery scoring from Brian Tenpas and Len Stamper. Arthur scored their third goal a minute later. The Crusaders came back to score three goals in a span of 1:24 seconds to add to their lead. Goal scorers were Ken Cousins, Troy Pocaluyka and Dave Montgomery. Assists went to Ken Higgins (2) Dave Stephenson, Deitner, Dave Montgomery and Troy Pocaluyka. Arthur came back to score the next four goals as they decided to play hockey. Brussels completed the scoring with 39 seconds left in the game. Ken Cousins scored from Dave Stephenson to complete the Crusaders 16-7 romp over the home team. WINGHAM 14 ■ BELGRAVE 0 Saturday, Feb. 11 in the third meeting of the year between the two teams, the Wingham Legion Pee Wees were all over the Belgrave team. Wingham lead 3-0 after the first period and 7-0 after the second period then doubled their output in the third. BELGRAVE 5 ■ WINGHAM2 Tuesday night, Feb. 14, the Wingham Great China House Pee Wees and Belgrave played an exhibition game. In the first period, Brad Robin­ son scored from Peter Gusso and Corey Moran. Gusso then added a goal of his own with Brad Robinson getting the assist. Mark Robinson scored from Brad Robinson to give Belgrave a 3-0 lead. BRUSSELS 13, ARTHUR 2 Arthur returned to Brussels to play game two on Saturday night. Two minutes into the period Kevin McArter opened the scoring on a pass from Kevin Deitner, then Kevin Deitner scored at the 11:10 mark from Dave Montgomery and Dave Stephenson. Dave Stephenson scored with 4:25 remaining in the period from Rob Cardiff and Kevin McArter. After 2:18 of the second period Brian Deitner scored from Ken Cousins and Doug Pestil. Arthur scored their first goal with 8:41 of the period left. Ken Higgins scored at the eight-minute mark with a blast from the point on Thynne and Steve Anger to com­ plete the scoring in the second period. In the third, Brown again scored from Anger to narrow the gap to 3-2. Brandon Coultes then scored from Kyle Moran and Mark Robin­ son from Brandon Coultes to complete the scoring. EUCHRE Eleven tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave Wednes­ day, February 15. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Mel Jacklin; low lady, Mrs. Marie Merkley; novelty lady, Mrs. Edith Coultes; high man, Ross Taylor; low man, George Carter; novelty man, Stanley Black; lucky table, Mrs. Helen Martin, Mrs. Dorothy Logan, George Johnston, Lome Jamieson. There will be euchre again Wednesday, Feb. 22 starting at 8 p.m. a pass from line-mate Gord Hutch­ inson. Brian Tenpas scored from Dave Montgomery and Troy Poca­ luyka.
