Sports Club needs
more snow for rally
More snow is needed if the
Walton Area Sports Club annual
snowmobile Poker Rally goes
ahead as planned for this coming
Sunday.
We are not getting the snow for
this time of year. The first of this
week is wet snow, with rain in the
forecast. If there is not enough
snow the committee has another
date set. February 19, same time,
same place with hands sold the
same as last year.
At the Walton Area Sports Club
last meeting a new committee was
chosen for this year as follows:
President, Bill Shortreed; Vice-
president, John Gillis; Secretary,
Joyce Marcuccio; Treasurer, Judy
Emmirch; Member, Maxine Hou
ston.
The Club still needs two more
members and would like volunteers
to come forward, as they are
needed to help this club carry on to
prepare their ball teams for this
summer. The children look forward
to their sport so come out and

Sunday morning greeters - at
Duff’s United Church were Murray
and Maxine Houston. Organist was
Glenda Carter. Ushers were Ron

Craig.
Rev. Bonnie Lamble took as her
sermon, “The Greatest of these is
Love”.
In the announcements the
U.C.W. executive meeting is called
for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Febru
ary 1. Unit meetings will be held
the following week, Feb. 8. Junior
choir practice is Thursday, Feb. 2
at 4:15 p.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 5, there will be
a board meeting at the home of
Mary Humphries at 8 p.m. Bible
study will resume Tuesday, Jan.
31, 10 a.m. (Bluevale) and Thurs
day, Feb. 2, 10:15 (Walton).

We had the F.E. Madill Jr. Band
come to our school and we had
Armchair Travellers. Our favourite
countries were China, Russia, Ger
many, Mexico, Netherlands,
France, Scotland and Japan. We
also are having Japan centres
where we are having fun making
volcanoes, origami and lantern art.
We have been doing drama plays
with masks and have been listening
and viewing tapes and filmstrips.
Some students have performed
bilingual plays. Multiplication
tables have started for grade 3. ,.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Last week our girls’ volleyball
team hosted an exhibition game
against Blyth.
On January 19 and 20 our school
had an enrichment unit entitled
Armchair Travellers. The students
had a chance to visit four countries
out of a possible eight. The
countries studied were Germany,
Russia, Mexico, France, Scotland,
China, Japan and the Netherlands.
Comments from students indicated
that they had a great time.
