Blyth Novice
lose in week
'A' win.
Blyth Novice “A” team travelled
to Brussels on Friday, Jan. 13, and
came home on the short end of a
3-2 hockey game.
The boys came out flat, and
Brussels out-skated Blyth the first
two periods, and built up a 3-0
lead. In the third period, Blyth
found their skating legs and impro
ved their play. Jeff Cowan fired in
two goals with Dan Chamney and
Trent Richmond picking up the
assists. The last five minutes was
all Blyth, but the Brussels goalie,
Jamie Thomas, was hot, holding
the win for Brussels.
On Sunday, Jan. 15, Blyth
travelled to Listowel. This was a
super team effort with Blyth up
setting Listowel 3 to 0.
Michael Haggitt surprised the
goalie, scoring unassisted early in
the game. In the second period,
Trent Richmond came up big,
scoring on a heads-up play by
Ronnie Abel-Rinn. The action went
end to end, till Dan Chamney
scored putting Blyth up by three in
the third. Assisting was Trent
Richmond and Mark Wilson. Blyth
defence of Greg Blok, Ronnie
Abel-Rinn, Jeff Ferguson, and
Corey Shannon helped Shane Burk
holder keep his first shut-out of this
season.
Members of this team are: Corey
Shannon, Darryl Bromley, Jeff
Cowan, Michael Haggitt, Trent
Richmond, Mark Wilson, Jeff Fer
guson, Dan Chamney, Ronnie

The Brussels Jr. D. Bulls enjoy
ed an excellent weekend of hockey
winning two games and improving
their season record to 16 wins
against 12 losses.
Friday night was shinny at its
best. With defense non-existent
the Bulls and Seaforth Cents went
end to end for 60 minutes. Fortu
nately for the Bulls they took the
last shot and came home with a 9-7
win. In the game the Bulls twice
blew three-goal leads and forced
Jeff McGavin to come up big on a
penalty shot attempt in the dying
minutes of play.
Brussels jumped quickly into a
3-0 lead with Deelstra, Vincent and
Campbell scoring in the opening
four minutes of play. Planning on
an easy cake-walk the Bulls sat
back and needed a last minute goal
by Vincent to take a 4-4 tie to the
dressing room after 20 minutes.
Campbell with his second and
two by Rutledge gave the Bulls a
7-4 lead after 40 minutes.
Seaforth quickly tied the score in
the third before Rutledge complet
ed his hat-trick. At the 13:32 mark
a Seaforth skater was awarded a
penalty shot after being hauled
down on a breakaway. McGavin
made the save and Campbell
sealed the victory with a powerplay
goal with 68 seconds remaining.
Sunday afternoon the Bulls upset
the first place Lucan Irish by a 7-5
score making Brussels the only
club to record two wins over the
Irish this season.
Lucan opened the scoring on the
powerplay before Strome tied the
game on passes from Robertson
and Campbell. A powerplay goal by
Rutledge from Strome sent the
teams to the dressing room tied at
two.
Four goals in the second period,
two by Strome and one each by
Rutledge
the lead
periods.
In the
the hat-trick and Paul Coultes
scored the insurance goal for a well
deserved 7-5 win.
Ron Strome became the third
Bull over the weekend to notch a
three-goal, two-assist game match
ing Campbell and Rutledge’s effort
on Friday night.
Without a doubt the game’s
number one star was defenseman
Craig Robertson who repeatedly
sent green sweaters crashing to the
ice, while playing solid defensive
hockey as well as picking up a pair
of assists.
Saturday night Brian Campbell,
Marty Rutledge and Jeff McGavin
played in the annual Jr. D. all-star
game held in Lucan. The game
ended in a 10-10 tie with Rutledge
bringing home the M.V.P. award.
