A 4 4 tion keeps you out of trouble. Another blessing in cold weather is the VW's air-cooled engine. There's • no water, so there's no need for anti-freeze. You don't even need a garage, (If your Volkswagen won't start in sub-zero weather, check the gas gauge.) Look underneath a conventional car and you'll find wires and rods and whatnot, In deep snow they can be a drag, and they can be damaged, The underside of a Volkswagen is completely covered with a smooth sheet of metal. There's nothing to hold you back but your own caution. So, if clearing a snow-filled drive- way is not for you, make friends with a Volkswagen owner. Or, better still, a Volkswagen dealer. Edwarde Wormworth Nearly sixty, men were on par- ade Monday night as Lieutenant Goodall inspected the militiamen at the opehing parade of the 99th. After the inspection Sergeant Major Blackwell had the men fall out to their respective courses. The signallers received a course of instruction bringing them up to date on communications equipment. The Tares, or technical assikants, were instructed by Lieutenant Goodall. In the gun shed the gun- ners practised their gunnery while out in the shed the recruits were drilled by Bombardier Lockridgc, followed by a review period and testing 'on the Fabrique Nationale rifle as part of the trained militia- men course. At the dismissal parade Major „Ritter enumerated important events for this month, On December 11, all ranks and officers will be sub- ject to a kit inspection, the value of missing equipment will be de- ducted from pay. Pay parade will be on the following Monday, 'Dec- ember 18 (just in time for Christ- mas). The kiddies' party for child- ren under twelve of all ranks will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20. Commencing on January 8 a ser- ies of special militia training courses will be conducted at the Wingham Armouries. There will be three successive six-week courses to end in May. The pay for these courses will be $108 plus a sub- sistence allowance of $65, There is a limit of 20 people for the course in the Wingham area, therefore, in- terested persons are urged to come to the Wingham Armouries on Monday or Thursady for full par- ticulars as to enrollment qualifi- cations. In conjunction. with the. courses accommodations will be needed for three instructors -on the courses. Room and board will be required for these men in Wingham. Contact Major B. P.
