Ride in 'Diesel
Closes Career
A desire of long standing was
realized Saturday when Lorne Ait-
chison or Mitchell rode in the front
end of .a diesel locomotive, pulling
a passenger train.
Mr, Aitchison retired Friday af-
ternoon' as C.N.R. freight and pas-
senger agent at Stratford, ending
almost half a century of service to
the railway.
Friday lie was presented with a
wallet and gift of money on be-
half of his fellow workers. On
Saturday afternoon arrangements
were made for Mr. Aitchison to
ride in the diesel engine pulling the
afternoon train to. Toronto. He
rode as far as Guelph,. and later re-
turned home as a passenger on an
evening train, He said he had rid-
den in many steam locomotives
and wanted to finish -his career
with a ride in a diesel.
Lorne Aitchison was raised in
Wingham. He is a veteran of the
first .World War and a brother of
Harvey Aitchison of this town.
