DELMORE
The September meeting of the
W.M.S. of 13elmore United Church
was held at the home of Mrs. Ira
Neill on Wednesday afternoon. The
meeting opened by singing a hymn,
reading Scripture and Mrs. Wilfred
Johann offered prayer,
A poem in remembrance of Mrs,
Tom Abraham and Mrs. Fred Jo-
hann was read, Mrs. Norman
Newans read "Let Me Live in
House by the Side of the Road".
The study book was taken by
Mrs. Doubledee, "Unity Begins at
Home".
Mrs. Farrell gave a reading from
the Missionary Monthly, "My Yoke
Is Easy and My Burden Is Light".
Mrs. Neill gave a very interesting
temperance reading, "Alcohol will
remove stains from summer cloth-
es, yes, will also remove the cloth-
es from the back of the man who
drinks it, and his family too; re-
move a good reputation, a man's
business; as a remover of things
alcohol has no equal".
The roll call was a verse with
the word thanks. The meeting was
closed by all repeating the Lord's
prayer in unison,

mercial vehicles .to one hour on
the main street end two hours on
other streets in the town. All mem-
bers of council expressed the view
that the town has provided a, park-
ing lot and that there is no reason
why commercial vehicles should be
allowed to obstruct the streets for
long periods of time.
Councillor Nesmith, reporting for
the public works committee; said
Parking on the south side of John
Street should he Considered, Clerk
William Renwick said there is a
by-law governing part of the street,
Council decided to review the by-
law and consider the problem at
the November meeting,
Public Works
Councillor Nasmith said that the
paving contracts for the year were
completed -and for the most part
the work was satisfactory. He also
said that the cost of the world had
fallen well within the budget
which had been allowed..
The curbing op John St., west
from Josephine to Leopold, which
was installed during the summer,
is in many aspects absolutely ri-
diculous. Just what had happened
with the planning, be said, is not
clear, The means of rectifying
the problem has not yet been set-
tled. The curbing at both ends of
the sectidn is far higher than had
ever been anticipated.
Several councillors expressed the
view that the contractor had let
the council doWn very badly on
the job, Deputy Reeve Joe Kerr
said the plans had called for an
allowance of asphalt of -three in-
ches, with the curbs to be three or
four inches beyond that point. The
matter was left in the hands of the
committee for further action.
Industry Problems
A long discussion followed on the
problems in connection with ob-
taining industry, but no decision
for concrete action was taken.
Some councillors felt that land
suited for industrial purposes
should be purchased and held for
industrial sites, while others felt
the town should not go into the
real estate business,
Recreation
Councillor Bud Cruickshank, re-
porting for the Recreation Com-
mission, read a report, giving the
statistics on the summer program
-at the swimming pool. Over 200
children received swimming in-
struction. The report also had a
number of suggestions for next
'year. 'It said that l0 children had
-been saved from possible drown-
ing, and all were under eight years
of age and had been playing in
-the shallow water. The report re-
commended that children under 8
years of age should not use the
swimming pool, but play at the
Kinsmen wading pool. Council was-
also asked to consider allowance
for room in the, bath house, when
it is built, in which valuables could
be kept, and that lights should be
placed at the pool.
Council passed a motion com-
mending Bob McIntyre and his
staff for their fine efforts at the
pool during the summer,
Mayor McKinney said that the
new assessor, Tack Reavie, Is do-
ing a splendid job. He also said
that nomination day will be on No-
vember 24th and the court of re-
vision on October 23rd,
Council agreed to a, request from
the Separate' School Board to have
a fire hydrant placed near the new
school,
In closing council discussed the
parking lot, problems in connec-
tion with land fill, and lights for
the area.
