INSTITUTE MEETING.
WHITECIIIJRCH — The regular
Monthly meeting of the Women's
Institute was held last Tuesday

Captain G. Stanley Newman, of
the Salvation Army, Wingham
Corps, was called upon for an ad-
dre,, He explained that there are
fa ,;;'more calls than formerly for
• efere work and that 85 percent
their time is spent on social
ark,
Capt,. Capt.. Newman said that he has
never been refused altnittance in court for probation cc parole cases,
nor failed to present Christ as the
answer to the problems,
The Whitechurele area preferred
to leave the Red Shield drive until
this time In order that it should
not conflict with another campaign
in the area. In regard to the Red
Shield, for which calls are being
made this week, Capt. Newman
told the ladies that the target has
already been reached and all money
reeeiveci now will be used
Improvements have been needed at
the Salvation Army Citadel in
Wingham and it is hoped with
these extra proceeds from the ap-peal that scene of the proposed pro-
jects on the building may be cam-
pleted, Mrs. James McInnis thank-
ed the speaker and a hearty vote of
apreciation was extended to him of
his work in this area.
Mr. Norman Welwood was then
called on and with a running .com-
mernstry showed beautiful and in-
teresting, slides of the trip he. took
to England and Germany, show-
ing the beautiful homes where the
troops were stationed in wartime
the training camp and surrounding
pieces of interest in Yorkshire and
Yorkminster Abbey. Mrs. Johnston
Conn moved a vote of thanks to
Mr. Welwood, and the meeting was,
closed with the National Anthem
All enjoyed the social hour that
followed,

to Canada, was Winston Churchill
on his wartime visits to Ottawa.

of the Gorrie-Wroxeter Cub Pack
last Wednesday Carman Hamilton,
Ted Graham, Doug King and Garry
Chambers were presented with
their First Stars,
Presentations were made on be-
half of the Pack and Group Com-
mittee to Rev, J. E, Clarke, who
leaves for Toronto next month,
and to Miss Thelma Bennett, who
will go to university in London this
fall. After speeches by Rev. E. C.
Attwell, Bagheera was presented
with a shoulder bag by Harold
Hyndman and Baloo was presented
with a camp kit by Alex Graham,
Seven boys from the Pack at-
tended the Maitland District Cub

GORRIE—Over 85 ladies of the
Gorrie United Church Sunday
School gathered Friday evening at
the home of Mrs. Gerald Galbraith
for two surprise presentatione and
a shower.
Mrs. Galbraith read the address-
es, which she had composed in
rhyme. Mrs. Glad Edgar present-
ed Mrs. Ewart Whitfield with a
gift in recognition of many years
as superintendent. Mrs. Clifford
PYIte made the presentation of a
gift to Mrs. J. E. Clarke, who leav-
es for Toronto next month.
Miss Marie liastie, bride-to-be.
was seated in a chair decorated in
yellow and white. Misses Carol
Robinson and Corinne Rharne pre-
sented her with miscellaneous gifts
in decorated baskets, Mrs. Rus-
sell Adams had Miss Hastie model
an apren and the ladies embroider-
ed their names on patches to be
appliqued on it. Several games of
bingo were played. The hostess
and committee served a dainty
lunch.

GORRIE—Rev, Q, Freker offic-
iated at Sacred Heart Roman Ca-
tholic Church, Wingham, on Sat-
urday at 11 a.m. for the wedding
of Elizabeth Louise Mitchell, Gor-
rie, and Cecil George Clarke of
Sundermere Farms, Ethel. The
bride is a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Mitchell, Garrie, and
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Clarke, Eth.
el, are the parents of the bride-
groom. The church was, decorated
with yellow mums and white glad-
ioli, The pews were marked with
white satin ribbons.
A floor-length gown. of white
' chantilly lace was worn by the
bride. It was fashioned with a
tier of lacy scalloped ruffles flow-
ing into a beautiful train. It feat-
ured a sabrina neckline with bead-
ed motif and long lily-point sleeves.
A small crown of aurora borealis
held her finger-tip veil of silk ny-
lon net and she carried a cascade
of red roses, stephanotis and ivy,

her niece, She wore a pink nylon
street-length dress with white flor-
al design, full skirt and white pill-
box with veil and she carried white

lilac taffeta street-length dresses,
with round neckline and short
sleeves with short overskirt trim-
med with bows, over bouffant
skirts, and matching headdresses

and groom, were In lime green ny-
lon dresses with Peter Pan collars,
puff sleeves and full skirts with
yellow and white headdresses and
carried baskets of yellow shasta
mums
Ringbearer for the double-ring
ceremony was Gerald Mitchell,
brother of the bride, wearing a
Highland kilt.
Harvey Clarke, brother of the
groom, was best man. Ushers were

white heather from Scotland for a
