CIRCUS CarrMS
ARE NOT JUST BOR4
Clowning is a business before
it is a art. Not all clowns arc
artists, but both the stars and
the rank and file—have learn-
ed their trade the hard way,
the big top way. They know
their business. Clowns are not
born. However, the good Ones
are born with the comedy
spark. But they are not the
ones the folks at home refer
to as "born clowns", No cut-
ups ever held a crowd in the
Big. Show with "life of the
party" antics. tvery skit, gag
or walkaround 'clown bit is a
studied thing. Knowledge -of
human nature, piyehology and
etknecil knowhew are' fristora
in each bit, no matter how
brief or trivial,
The Carson •C'tz Barnes ClOWEIS
have all been through the mills
—they are masters of their
business and their business is
provoking, laughs and bringing
happiness to 'children of all
ages. The clowns however, are
just one small part of the
mighty entertainment program
of this year's stellar progratii
presented by Carson & Barnes

Opposition was expressed at a
hearing in Ottawa last week, to the
granting of a license to operate a
new radio station in Goderich. The
hearing was conducted by the
Board of Broadcast Governors.
Those who registered opposition to
the applicants, of which there •are
two, were radio station CKNX,
Wingham, and the ten weekly
newspapers ,in the county of Mir-
011.
John Cruickshank said the low
potential revenue in the area would
make a Goderich station a Shoe-
string operation and thus liable to
become another "electronic juke-
box",
Carlyle Allison. BlIG -
man, said the 10 weekly newspap-
ers in Huron County had register-
ed opposition by letter to tint board.
He did not reveal the contents of
the letter but implied that the pa-
pers feared a loss of advertising
revenue.
(Actually the brief presented by
the weekly press pointed out that
this area is extremely well served
by radio station CKNX, and ex-
pressed the fear that a second sta-
tion would tend to lower the stand-
ard.)
