nerow, Saugeen vice-chairman.
Several members of the Saugeen,
Authority's staff also assisted, in
providing information to the tour-
ing group.
The members of the tour learned
at Walkerton that a flood control
project in that centre is being built
in seven stages and will ultimately
cost $122,000. Four stages have
been completed .so far, including
6,800 feet of earth dykes. The re-
sults have paid for the work many
times over, Mr, LobSinger said.
Recreation 'Sites
At both Varney and Mildmay Mr.
Lobsiager explained the layout of
recreation areas, which he ,pointed
out are visited by thousands of
People every year, The park at
Mildmay is part of the Mildmay-
Carrick Conservation Area which
will be expanded in the course of
time. About $10,000 has been spent
lit the Mildmay location.
At Varney the group saw a typi-
cal example of a by-pass pond that
is being used for swimming and
is surrounded by a lovely park,
Some '350 people visited this spot
on one day during last summer,
At Allan Park a demonstration
of tree spraying with 'portable
equipment had been arranged in a
plot which has been reforested.
ed. The demonstration showed
how European Sawfly is controlled
in tree stands. The Saugeen Au-
thority has 8,700 acres of land pur-
chased for reforestation.
The buses stopped briefly at
Durham to allow the group to see
a new recreation project in that
town, and then continued to Bell's
Lake, which is some two miles long
and has 'been preserved by the Sau-
geen Authority for public use. An
area of 1,600 acres of land adjoin-
ing the lake has been purchased
and bush on the property is open
for public hunting during the sea-
son,
The -main item of interest, how-
ever, is a pasture improvement
demonstration which is proving
that farm land which has been
misused for many years can still
be brought back to a productive
level by proper measures. Work
in the area is being done in co-op-
eration with the Ontario Depart-
ment of Agriculture and the On-
tario Beef Pasture Improvement
Committee,
The group on tour was provided
with 'a noon meal at the Walkerton
Legion Hall, with Robert Wenger,
of Wingham, who organized the
tour, acting as chairman.
The municipalities involved in
the' proposed plan for a full Mait-
land River Authority include the
Townships of Arthur, Colborne,
Goderich, Howick, Hullet, Kinloss,
Minto, Turnberry, West Wawanosh,
as well as Seaforth, Clinton, God-
erich, Wingham, Harriston, Palm-
erston, and the Village of Blyth.
Already supporting the existing
Middle Maitland Authority are the
Townships of Ellice, Elma, Grey,
Logan, Maryborough, Mornington,
1VfeKillop, Wallace and East Wa-
wanosh, as well as the town of
Listowel and the 'villages of Brus-
sels and Milverton.

Tube to Prevent
Lawn Erosion
Rain water is carried away from
the house foundation and gently
sprinkled on the lawn by a poly-
thene rain spout extension now on
the market.
It consists of an eight-foot tube
'of heavy polythene film perforated
for the lower half of its length.
The top of the tube is tied over the
rain 'spout and the rest of the tube
Is rolled up and tucked loosely in
the snout. When the rains come,
the water pressure unrolls the t
log, safely carrying the water ate
from the building and sprinkling
on the lawn.
The extension is of clear film
which makes it quite inconspicuous
when not in use, Thus, the maker
claims, it is not likely to attract
the interest 'of tampering children.
It sells for about 90 cents.
