Mr. and Mrs, James Paisley
celebrated their 50th wedding an-
niversary with friends and neigh-
bors and members of their immed-
iate family recently, when a buffet
luncheon was served.
They were married in Scotland,
May 27, 1911, and came to Canada
in 1927. They lived at Moorefield
for six years and then moved to
a farm on the tenth of Turnberry
where they resided until retiring
to Wingham six years ago,
Mr, and Mrs. Paisley have three

Make Fruit Bread
WHITECHURCH—The 4-H Fruit
Lassies met last Saturday at the
home of Mrs. A. N. Coultes with
eight girls present. They told of
different methods of using dried
fruits. Two fruit salads were ,on
display.
Margaret Moore and Diane CoUlt-
es demonstrated the making , of
fruit bread. Andrea and Carol
Adams made a rhubarb dessert,
which, with the fruit bread and
salads, were enjoyed at lunch.

son is confined to the hospital for
a few days suffering from pneu-
monia.

on Sunday.
Mrs, Allan White underwent a
minor operation last week and is
spending a few days with her mo-
ther, Mrs. Joe Horton at Belraore.
Mrs. Robert McKee of Teeswater
is spending a few weeks with Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon McKee.
Mr, and Mrs. Ronald Renwick of
Coulter, Man., left for home on
Sunday after visiting with relatives
in this district.
Couple Observes
40th Anniversary
LAKELET—A surprise celebra-
tion was held •Saturday evening for
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dettman of
R.R. 1, Clifford, which was planned
by their family. The occasion was
their 40th wedding anniversary and
was held at the home of a son, Mr,
and Mrs. Ken Dettman.
Present were the bridesmaid and
best man of forty years ago, Mr.
and Mrs. Emerson Dickert. Sisters
of Mrs. Dettman, Mrs. Lorena Her-
man and Mr. and 'Mrs. Levi Miller,
of Clifford; daughters, Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Wagner (Doris) and
girls, of Simeoe, Mr. and Mrs. Herb
Miller (Edna) and boys of Water-
loo; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Schaefer
(Doreen) and Paul of Simcoe and
their son, Mr, and Mrs. Leroy Dett-
man and family of Clifford. Other
relatives present were Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Stafford of Kitchener,
Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Wagner of
Neustadt, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brauti-
gam of Clifford and Rev. and Mrs.
Schieman of Clifford.
A social evening was spent play-
ing cards and Mr. and Mrs. Dett-
man were the recipients of many
beautiful gifts. We would like to
add our 'congratulations and 'hope
Mr. and Mrs. Dettman enjoy many
more anniversaries.
W.M.S. Meets at
Dustow Home
LAKELET—The W.M.S. held its
June meeting on Wednesday at the
home of Mrs. Fred Dustow. Lea-
der, Mrs. Bert Wylie, opened the
meeting with a short reading on
"Call to Worship". The theme of
this meeting. was "Workers with
God". This was followed by a
hymn and Scripture reading.
The study book was taken by
Miss Nellie Doig. Twelve ladies
answered the roll call with a fa-
vorite verse from the Bible.
Mrs. Howard Pace asked the la-
dies to remember the missionar-
ies in the Congo, who are in grave
danger, in their daily prayers, Mrs.
Wylie closed the meeting with a
prayer and a lovely lunch was serv-
ed by the hostess.
BUS TRIP PROVIDES
INTERESTING DAY
WILETECHURCH — Mr. George
Kennedy with a bus load of over
40 women and children enjoyed a
trip last Thursday to Kitchener and
Stratford, All enjoyed shopping at
the Plaza, then on through the
Weston Bread factory, where the
women received a loaf of bread,
They visited Vanity Fair, where
several of the group were inter-
viewed on CKCO Channel 13, and
from there they were eagerly
watched and identified by the home
folks.
Then all enjoyed going through
the Coca-Cole, plant, and over to
Stratford, where they were taken
on a boat trip up the Avon River
and to a local restaurant for
supper,

A report of the 41st annual con-
vention of the Catholic Women's
League of the diocese of London
was given by Mrs. Owen King at
the June meeting of Sacred Heart
C,W,L. The convention was held
in Chatham on May 10 and 17 in
St. Joseph's auditorium,
Various civic action cdminittees
reported the assistance offered by
the c.W.L, to such worthy causes
as the Canadian Cancer Society,
March of Dimes and the Tubercul-
osis Association.
The convener of legislation, stat-
ed that the C.W.L. mission in life
is to love God. She urged members
to get ,out and vote. Evil triumphs
in this day because the good do
nothing. Administrations and ad-
ministrators should be known.
A wide range of social service
was covered in the Social Action
report, Work of this committee
throughout the diocese in the past
year ranged from making 10,918
visits to the sick to giving 150
hours' assistance to a blind lady
living alone and to' assisting tea-
chers of the mentally retarded.
The education convener reported
an amount of $16,172.39 spent on
education in the diocese, Girl
Guides reported that 41 Guide
Companies have 917 members and
52 Brownie Packs 'have 1338 Brow-
nies.
That parents have a moral ob-
ligation 'to censor the type and
quality of entertainment advisable
for their families was reported by
the TV, Radio and Films commit-
tee, Cards of appreciation and
censure have been distributed in
all parish councils to be sent ,.o
local sponsors of programs.
The banquet closing the eonven-
tion was held at Cody Auditorium
at "The Pines" in Chatham. The
guest speaker based her vernar/0
on Pope Leo Encyclical
4'Reru-in Novaruni", which dealt
with the fundamental right of ,em-
ployers and employees.
At the Wingham meeting it was
decided that Mrs. John Hanna will
be awarded the past president's
pin. High Mass for the living
members of the aw.L. will be sung
on the first Saturday cif every
month. Tentative plans were made
for a holy hour in September,
