of "The Peddler's Call," the story
of a Christian missionary in Iran.
Mrs. Ross Mann told an interest-
ing story to the Mission Band. All
the children returned to the audi-
toriuni for the concluding exercises
with the congregation,

held a trousseau tea on Saturday
in honor of her daughter, Dorothy,
when many friends attended, As-

AT WM, GATHERING
WHITECHURCH — About 80 la-
dies from Westfield, Donnybrook,
St. Helens, Whitechurch, Wing-
ham, and Belgrave WMS groups
attended a Missionary meeting in
Calvin-Brick United Church on
Monday evening. Mrs. Norman
Coultes, president, presided and led
in the responsive reading of Scrip-
ture, followed by the Lord's prayer
in unison,
Mrs, John Jamieson led In the
devotional period, speaking of the
leaven of prayer, of encouragement,
of praise, and how it works in
homes, churches and communities.
Mrs. Roy Pattison led in prayer.
Mrs. Gordon McBurney led in the
Scripture reading, telling of Christ's
triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Mrs. Noble, of Belgrave, gave
two readings, "My Cup Runneth
Over," and "You Must Seek Him
in the Morning, If You Want Him
Through the Day."
Mrs. George McGee then intro-
duced the speaker., Mrs, J. Ostrom,
of Wingham, who spoke also from
this chapter in Luke, telling of the
fulfilment of all Biblical prophecy,
the crying of the people "Hosanna,
Save us," and the willingness of
the people to help Christ, and our
responsibility to help others.
Mrs. De Boor, of St. Helens, a na-
tive of Holland, sang a solo in her
own language, and Mrs. Coultes
closed the meeting with prayer. All
enjoyed the social hour and the
delicious lunch.

of whom passed away in Infancy.

Burney to 'honour the newyweds,
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Shiell, and
also Mr. and Mrs. -Chas, 'Staten,
Twelve tables of euchre were in
play, with Grant Coultes and Frank
Thompson holding high points and
Mrs. Roy Pettis= and Stanley
Marks with low points. Others en-
joyed lost heir and crokinole games
or just the social time together.
Alex Robertson was. chairman
and read an address reminding Mr.
and Mrs. Chas. Shiell of the long
years of friendship and tabor in
the community and welcoming Mr.
and Mrs.:Murray Sid01 into' this

and Mrs. Chas. Shiell with an oc-

Mr. Shiell and Murray thanked

wedding was solemnized on Satur-
day in Oakville United Church at
2.30 when Miss Margaret Laurena,
elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Finlay McGowan, became •the bride

Jamieson, of East Wawanosh, with
the minister of the church offici-
ating.
The attendants were Miss , Ca-
mille Headless and Miss Laurretta
Schelhas, of Kitchener, and Ross
Jamieson, brother of the groom,
was best man. Earl Jamieson and
Orland Irwin were ushers.
The wedding dinner was held for
sixty guests at the Estaminet, Bur-
lington The happy couple left on
a honeymoon trip up the St. Law-
rence Seaway.

has been suggested in recent

The WMS held its regular Meet-
ing in the Unite'd Church; on Thurs-
day, Mrs, Alex. Corrigan presiding
A happy evening was spent on
Saturday when Mr. and Mrs, Alex-
ander Elliott celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary with a family
dinner in the parish room `of St.
Paul's Anglican -Church,
Marking the occasion with them
were their children, with wives
and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Elliott, Mr. and Mrs. William El-
liott, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Elliott,
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd 'Elliott, Mr.
arid Mrs, Miller Davis, all of Wing-
ham and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ryan of
Toronto, and their nine grand-
children. Mr. Elliott's sister, Mrs.
Letitia Mitchell, and Mrs. Walter
Davis were also guests.
The table was centred with a
three-tiered wedding cake, suitably
decorated for the occasion, Bou-
quets of yellow mums, white tapers
and place cards with gold 50th an-
niversary motif, and coasters with
hand-lettered initials in gold com-
pleted the table decorations,
..2vIr, Ryan proposed a toast to the
celebrants and expressed his plea-
sure as a son-in-law in having
known their fine qualities as par-
ents, and their devotion as a hap-
pily-married couple,
The group returned to the par-
ents' home after the dinner, where
a pleasant family gathering was
held and Mr. and Mrs. Elliott were
presented with a living room
chair covered with a gold material,
by the family. The grandchildren
gave them a lovely glass vase in
gold and cerise colors.
Mrs. Elliott is the former Eliza-
beth Magee, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Magee, and
they were married at her parents'
home on the Bluevale Road on
JUne 7th, 1911: Mr. Elliott is a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. D.
Elliott, who also resided on the
Bluevale Road.
Following their marriage they
lived in Durham for several years,
where he was employed by the
