MISSIONARIES NEED
BEST OF TRAINING
EL-UP:VALE .-The VITAIS meeting
in the United Church on Tuesday
was chaired by the president, Mrs.
Milton Fraser, who conducted de-
votions. Mrs. Snarling Johnston
gave the treasurer's report.
Mrs. Carl Johnston, Christian
stewardship secretary, gave a read-
} a
which will combine the TVMS and
the Woman's Association.
• Mrs. W. 3. Peacock, citizenship
-Secretary, spoke on "Moral Char-
acter."
Mrs, J. Wickstead and Mrs, Mel
Craig had charge of the study
period which began with hymn
singing and prayer. Mrs. Craig read
an article about the Lord's prayer,
which made clear the meaning of
each petition.
Mrs. Graham Campbell gave the
• study book chapter, "Are Mis-
sionaries Necessary?" from the
book "The Turning World." Mis-
sionaries need the best of training
because their work requires they be
strong in faith, able to face frus-
tration -and be guides, rather than
dictators. Each missionary must
understand the real needs of the
people. There is a shortage of mis-
. sicnaries because of the failure
of the church to be a vital force.
The Christian can witness what-
. ever his vocation and so the church
sends nurses, teachers, doctors,
engineers, workers in industrial anti
agricultural projects, as well as
ministers.
