MARY MAGDALENE •
FIRST TO SEE CHRIST
AFTER RESURRECTION
Mrs. Leonard Phillips, president
of the. Goforth Evening Auxiliary,
welcomed• ladies of the W.M.S. and
40 members to the regular meeting
which was held on Tuesday eve-
ning.
After the call to worship the op-
eninc, hymn, "My Faith Looks up
to Thee", was sung. Mrs. Harry
Bateman read the Bible portion
and the meditation on the resur-
rection. of Jesus was given by Mrs.
Ted English. Mrs. Bruce Mac-
Donald led in the -intercessory
prayer. "The Glory of Spring,
How Sweet", was sung.
A study on the life of Mary Mag-
dalene was given by Mrs. Redmond
MacDonald. Jesus effected a mir-
aculous cure on an affliction of
Mary Magdalene and she became
a faithful and devoted follower of
the Master. She is mentioned it
times in the Gospels and was one
of the four who remained with Je-
sus during His crucifixion. Mary
followed His body to the grave
and when Sabbath observance in-
terrupted her vigil she was the
first to reach the tomb on the
first day of the week, She was
also the first to see the stone roll-
ed away and the one who reported
the event to Peter and John. Above
all she was the first one to see the
Risen Lord and when He spoke
her name she knew that He was
alive. Obeying Jesus' command
to go and tell the brethren she
was the 'first to carry the message,
"I have seen the Lord."
Mrs. Betty Feagan sang a beau-
tiful solo, "He Is Mine", accom-
panied by 'Mrs. Bruce MacDonald.
During the business session the
offering was received and dedicat-
ed by Mrs. 'Robert McKague. A
piano solo, "The Holy City", played
by Mrs. Harry Bateman, was much
enjoyed by the Auxiliary.
Mrs. George Malcolm was the
special speaker of the evening and
showed many interesting pictures
of the Holy Land. Mrs. Malcolm,
with her husband and family tour-
ed the Jordanian section of Jeru-
salem, Bethlehem, Bethany and
many other places of interest in
1959. while enroute to Canada for
furlough, The Auxiliary appreciat-
ed the opportunity of viewing the
places where the Lord Jesus spent
much of His time while here on
earth, thus bringing places of the
Bible much nearer.
Following the slides Mrs. Ken-
neth 'Leitch addressed Mrs. Mal-
mini and presented her with a life
Hunt, Brampton.
A family gathering was held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. William
Wright on Friday evening in 'honor
of Miss Carol Greig, who has ac-
cepted a position at London Life
in London, and will be leaving
shortly.

nedy, Wingham, spent Saturday

A petition signed by 30 to 40 re-
sidents of the Belmore area has
'been placed before the Culross
Township School Area board, ask-
ing that a new two-room school be
built at Belmore to replace the pre-
sent building, which was erected
in 1878.
At present some students are be-
ing transported to Teeswater for
schooling and the petitioners con-
tend that this would not be neces-
sary if the new school were built,
Education problems in the sec-
tion are complicated, by the fact
that Belmore lies at the juncture
of four townships, Culross and Car-
rick in Bruce County and Howick
and Turnberry, in Huron Country.
