THE CAST of the opera "Orpheus in the Under-
world" which was staged in the auditorium of the
high school last Friday evening, was entertained by
the Lions Club at the home. of Pe. and Mrs. E. F.
Shatinessy, following the performance. Pictured
above are Jodi Protero, soprano, who sang the part
of "Eurydice". Miss Protero, a native of Toronto,
made her operatic debut at 13, She studied in Italy,
and has sung with a number of noted -companies on
the continent. Alan Crofoot, a noted Canadian
tenor, appeared in the opera as 'Bacchus", a part
which he sang with distinction. Mr. Croinot too.;
a Master's degree in psYchology at the University of
Toronto, before turning to music. lie has been a
soloist in the Stratford Festival operas, sang with
Sadler% Wells Opera Company in London England,
and has been part of Canadian Opera Company tours
foe five seasons. Shown talking to the two opera
personalities are Anna McDonald, who acted as
hostess for the Lions Club and. Dr. W. A, Crawford,
a past-President of the local club.

GORRIE--Mrs. Charles Schaefer,
RegN„ R.R. 1, Gowanstown, was
guest speaker Tuesday evening at
the annual meeting of the Gorrie
Women's Institute at the home of
Mrs. Clarence Sparling, She said
the original meaning of Health
was "Heal the Hurt", and told of
first aid for burns, choking, faint•
ing, poisoning, snake bite and other
accidents. Cars and homes aro
the worst accident hazards, A
demonstration of direct pressure
and bandaging to stop a hemorr-
hage was given, also the Neilsen
methods of artificial respiration,
• Mrs. William Strong, health con-
vener, thanked Mrs, Schaefer and
presented a gift,
Mrs. Clifford Pyke presented the
motto, "Worry is like a rocking
chair, it gives you something to do
but gets you nowhere". People,
she said worry about the past, the
present and the future. They
worry about things that never
happen, but why? 'We must all
meet adversity and let us realize,
"our help cometh from the Lord".
Roll call was answered by telling
how you would like to be remem-
bered when a shut-in.
Plans were made for "Family
Night' in April and for .a visit to
the Huron Count3r44 Home at Clin-
ton, The secretary-treasurer, Mrs.
Harry Rhame, gave the financial
report for the year, which showed
activity. Reports of standing com-
mittees were given,
Joanne Strong and Carol Keil
sang two numbers, "Let There Be
Peace on Earth and Let It Begin
with Me" and "Whatever Will Be,
Will Bee'. ‘.
Mrs, William Strong and Carol
Keil held the lucky numbers in
the Dutch auction. Mrs. Stewart
Strong, Mrs. Gerald Glabraith and
the hostess were the lunch com-
mittee.

Tours Top Farms
GORRIE - The 'Banner Coun-
ties' Ayrshire Club members were
on a bus tour on Saturday, which
started from Burssels. They visit-
ed some of the top .Ayrshire herds
in Canada, These .were the herds of
M. D, Carter, Stansell Blocs., Ayl-
mer; Chas. Lams, Alle Helder, of
Belmont, and Henry Elzinga, of
Mossley.
Fifty Ayrshire breeders attended
this tour. A number of Ayrshire
heifers were recently shipped to
Cuba. Lloyd McNeil, Moorefield,
is the president, and Irvin .Sehaus.
Mildmay, vice-pres., with Wilfred
Barnes, of 'Petersburg, secretary-
treasurer. Messrs. John and Perry
'Strong, aortic, were on the bus
tour.

GORRIE- The Gorrie interme-
diates won over the Kurtzville in-
termediates in the best two out of
three series on Wednesday in the
Palmerston arena with a score of
11-1. At Belmore arena on Friday
Gorrie defeated Kurtzville
Goal-getters at Edmore were
Murray Mulvey 2, David Sander-
son 1, Ronald McMichael 1, Gor-

Peter Newans I.
Gorrie intermediates will play
the winners of Jamestown' and
Teviotdale.
Howick Lions juveniles also had
a winning streak, when they met
the Drayton juveniles on . Friday
inDrayton arena. The score was

Church will hold their Group par-
ty on Wednesday at 8.30 in the

day of Albert Wray, who died af-

turned after visiting her daughter

The regular meeting of the
Afternoon AUXillarY of the Wing-
ham T.laptist °Immix was held at
the home of Mrs. A, N. Atkinsen,
on Wednesday afterncon, one week
earlier than usual.
The auveting opened by the
tug of the hymn, .‘,Send the Light"
followed by prayer by Mrs. A
4intouL The minutes were ,iclopted
as read. The roll call was answered
by a verse of Scripture relating to
Easter. The treasurer's report
showed a goodly sum on hand; the
yearly objective for Miss Laura
Collar has alraedy been reached
by this group.
The mission study was on Africa.
Mrs,. 'Stokes read from the Sudan
Witness, "This Must Be Our An-
swer." Mrs, Sinclair and Mrs.
Atkinson read from Africa Now,
"How My People Found the Light."
The Scripture was read by Mrs.
T. Gaunt. The devotional, "A time
to speak, and a time to keep si-
lent," 'was given by Mrs, J. Kelly.
Afterwards, there was a season of
prayer. Mrs, Miles Cameron was
appointed representative from the
Auxiliary to the fellowship com-
mittee. of the church.
Mrs, D. Sinclair read a letter
from. Rev. and .Mrs. John Hamelin,
Malartic, expressing their appreci-
ation and thanks for the box which
they received in December.
The meeting closed by singing
the hymn, "Thy Life Was Given
For Me," followed by prayer by
Mrs. W. Harcourt. Later lunch was
served and a time of fellowship
enjoyed.
