Antiques add both beauty and value to a home.
When it comes to antiques Cy Cline should be an expert. He'd
better be. His shop is filled with enough top quality antiques that
would make an insurance man faint at the idea of a fire claim.
On the day he sat down to discuss how people should go about
decorating with antiques he had just received a shipment from
Quebec that included among other things a piece valued at more
than S12,000. He's getting ready for a prestigious antique show
to which he is taking more than $150,000 worth of stock from his
Stonetown Antiques store in St. Marys. Not being an expert
could cost him heavily.
His first advice to those thinking of decorating their home in

antiques, not surprizingly, is "go to a damned honest,
honourable antique dealer." Most antique dealers aren't about
to gyp their customers he says because they depend for their
business on continued sales to a clientele. But, he says there are
a few bad apples in every barrel. So, he suggests, people should
go to someone who is both honourable and knowledgeable.
One of the things people thinking of adding antiques to their
decor should do first is to learn everything possible about them.
Mr. Cline suggests visiting museums to get an idea of style of
various eras. Another good place to learn is at antique shows.
