Pines. Jerry further explained that when
R and R Productions approached the local
FM radio station, FM 102 in Wingham with
the suggestion of helping promote the
Pickin In The Pines concerts, the station
quickly said yes. FM 102 gave air -time to
promote the groups through interviews
with the talent co-ordinator Richard
'Knetchel, and played the groups albums.
Some live performances have also been
taped and used as on -air programs.
Jerry was off again, up on the stage
filling the gaps between acts with friendly
chatter, and announcements of upcoming
Bluegrass events in the area. When he
asked the crowd where they were from.
loud cheers and applause answered him as
he called out; Hanover, Walkerton,
Mildmay, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Strat-
ford, London, Kitchener -Waterloo, and
many towns between.
1 spent the rest of the day doing what
everyone else had come to Pickin In The
Pines to do. I found a comfortable spot in
the cool shade of a big pine tree beside the
stream that wanders lazily through the
park. 1 settled down with a hot dog in one
hand, a cold pop in the other, and listened
to the familiar melodies of Bluegrass
music; the guitar. banjo, mandolin. fiddle.
and string bass; all playing harmoniously
on the stage of Pickin In The Pines. at
Palace Gardens Formosa.
