Village Squire, 1979-06, Page 19please and I said, 1 don't, at least not
always, and she said why don't you say
please for Auntie and I said I don't know,
ca.' I wash my hands please, and she said
you've just washed your hands, what do
you want to wash them again for and I said
because I want to go to the bathroom,
please. She said oh, you just want to
puddle with the soap and water, no, you
can't go. Then I started to cry and she said,
well, just cry it out and stay at the table and
then I made wet on the chair and it went on
the floor and on the rug and she jumped
and ran with me to the bathroom but it was
too late because I didn't want to wet any
more. Then she said you little imp, why
didn't you tell me. I did, and said please
and you wouldn't let me. Then she looked
at me very hard and said you are the
strangest child. If I had you for a week Fd
Make You Over but I said 1 don't want to be
Made Over - Isn't God very good at it?
Good at what said Auntie. Good at making
children...Why of course God is good at
making children, what in the world made
you ask such a question? Well because you
said God made me and now you want to
Make Me Over. With that Auntie left the
bathroom and I started to wash my hands
and 1 used the old toothbrush and the dog
came in and I scrubbed his back and he like
it and I took him to the kitchen to show
Auntie and I asked her if I could scrub the
dog all the time if I came to stay for a week
and She said who said you were coming to
stay for a week. Because you asked me to I
said and she smiled and said would you like
to come and I said yes, if I can bring Niggar
- Niggar is my dog and he's bigger than
auntie's dog and I'll bet Niggar would eat
Auntie's dog right up and maybe her cat
too because it scratched me when I lifted it
up and I had to go and get some iodine on it
and she said not to tease the kitty because
it was not used to children and while she
was talking, the cat came and jumped on
the table and Auntie said get down, you
naughty kitty, and it wouldn't, and I pulled
it off by its tail and it made an awful noise
and Auntie grabbed it up and it scratched
her and made blood come and I went to the
bathroom to get the iodine to pour it on
Auntie's arm and cat jumped and knocked
the iodine all over Auntie's dress and on
the rug and Auntie went over to the
chesterfield and laid down and started to
cry. I guess the kitty hurt her so I went and
got a stick from the corner and I gave the
kitty a big whack and made her howl and
Auntie stopped crying and jumped up and
ran to the telephone and called long
distance and it was Mom on the phone and
Auntie said she wasn't feeling well and
would it be convenient for Dad to come and
get me because she thought I was getting a
little home -sick. But I wasn't homesick but
I guess Auntie thought I was. So Dad came
and got me and went home and I said to
Auntie can I come again soon and stay for a
week and have some peas, please, and she
said we'll think it over. Goodbye for now
and she gave me a kiss and pushed me into
the car."
