Village Squire, 1979-06, Page 17Port Stanley Summer Festival
gears up for second season
Few theatres ever started have been so much the product of
one man as the Port Stanley Summer Festival.
Now entering its second season the festival might really have
been called the Jim Schaefer Summer Festival in its first season.
Not only was Schaefer artistic director but he wrote and directed
all the productions on the stage.
At the time of this writing the 1979 season wasn't known. It is
understood however that one of the productions will be a
revamped version of last year's show Port Stanley Memorial
History Show which will this year take in the history of the whole
of Elgin county. There will also be one new show for adults and
two children's productions.
Petrolia won't
do summer season
There will be no summer theatre this year at the Victoria
Playhouse, Petrolia. The strain, both financially and physically of
operating a year-round operation proved too much this year. The
theatre is the home base of Theatre-Go-Ro nd during the winter
season and so has. decided to take the 'summer off. Patricia
Mahoney, artistic director of Theatre -Go -Round will take
advantage of the break to research and write This Foreign Land
at the Blyth Summer Festival.
