The first cookbook is now in its 15th printing since being issued by McGraw- Hill Ryerson in 1968. The company claims it is the best selling cookbook in Canada. The next book will however be published by her old friend Jack McClelland of McClelland and Stewart Publishing Com- pany. The first cookbook contained recipes she had gleaned through her years of living in Waterloo county, heavily influenced by the Amish and Old Order Mennonites. It deals with the rich recipes of the local people and has proven to be popular in all areas of Canada. As an ego booster, Edna says, she sometimes goes into a Toronto bookstore and asks if the cookbook is popular and is always assured that it is. Through her writing, both cookbooks are about Mennonite life in general. Edna Staebler has done much to increase understanding about the way of life of the Mennonites and, Amish. They knew her and trusted her and allowed her to tell their story so that today many people who once thought the Mennonites were a bit strange, now have a new respect for them.
