Village Squire, 1979-05, Page 11justify the cost, yet few do. An industry spokesman says that
most customers use their extra disposable income for the
payments. Someone who can afford to set aside $350. a month
for 10 years can buy one, he says.
There are two distinct areas of thoughts as to which is
preferable, a trailer or a motor home. Some people argue for the
convenience of not having to tow a trailer so go for the motor
home while others say that if you have a motor home, you have to.
pack up completely every time you want to take a side trip while
with a trailer, you can simply unhitch the towing vehicle and take
off.
Those concerned about gas consumption can probably gain
with a trailer. A good truck towing a 25 -foot travel trailer can get
12-14 miles per gallon while a 29 -foot motor home (which has
about the same amount of space as a 25 -foot trailer) would get
seven or eight miles to the gallon.
The big argument in favour of the deluxe motor homes is the
prestige. The customer for these is most apt to be the same guy
who'll insist on getting a 60 -foot yacht instead of a motor boat, on
spokesman said.
Whether it's a motor home or a trailer, you'll travel in style in
one of these babies. Oh it may not be quite as roomy as your
split-level back home but you'll find most of the comforts of
home. There's a gas range. refrigerator, sinks and cupboards (all
with at least a shower but some with full bathtubs), forced air
heating. water heater and a lot of other conveniences that many a
housewife would have liked in her real home 25 years ago.
Somehow, looking inside one of these. it's hard to even
remember the damp summer nights in a leaky tent.
