Despite the growing trend to winter vacations, summer is still the biggest vacation time of the year, particularly locally with our proximity with vacation playgrounds and summer theatres. As a salute to that coming vacation period a look this month at two very different ways of vacationing, one taking it with you and one getting away from it all. In recent years motor homes and travel trailers have become big business. Many people want to take their comfortable lifestyle along with them when they go. For other people the idea of a vacation is to get away some place quiet. For more and more that place is Westover Park on the edge of St. Marys, a quiet guest house on impressive grounds with a fascinating history. Summer for people in the Wingham area this year will mean a big celebration. It's the 100th anniversary of the town's incorporation and thousands will be returning from all over the continent to help celebrate. We take a look at the history of the town. Orlo Miller is a man fascinated by history and by famous and infamous characters in that history. He is in turn a fascinating man as we discovered recently on a visit to his London Home. Another fascinating person is ballet teacher Miloslawa Zablocki of Clinton who talked to Elaine Townshend about her background, her work and her many students over the years. • And a familiar name to many long-time readers of Village Squire has a new book out this month. Robert Laidlaw contributed many stories to the magazine before his death in 1976. He also wrote a novel about pioneer life called The McGregors which has just been published by Macmillan. We have a review of it here.
