production includes the study of set design, which is akin to
interior designing, she explains. She sewed all the draperies for
the house, refinished furniture and even made a
comfortable -looking couch for the den.
One of her favourite rooms is the large bright sewing room at
the front of the house. It has plenty of space for her long sewing
table, industrial sewing machine, ironing board and storage
cabinet as well as room for the children to play while she works.
When baby Cassandra arrived three months ago the sewing
business was interrupted temporarily, but "Diana's Sewing
Room" is again open for business.
She has made all her family's clothes, including dresses with
smocking for. her oldest daughter, her husband's shirts, jackets
and trousers and three winter coats and innumerable suits for
herself.
Last year a little advertising brought almost more orders than
she could keep pace with. She designed everything from evening
gowns to riding habits. Because of her training, she can deviate
from a pattern. If a client bringS a pattern that is close to what he
or she has in mind, Diana can make the necessary changes, such
as a different collar or sleeves, to make the finished garment to
