But he spent a good deal of time last winter talking to service groups in town and presented a slide show showing what the interiors of the buildings would look like when the building was finished. He feels strongly that Stratford and other cities should be taking more concern about what is happening to their downtown without interfering too much in the rights of the landowner to manage his own property. There are so many towns that are examples of hodge-podge developments he says in most cases the banks are prime culprits. building one -storey buildings between two and three story buildings. While the restoration of Festival Square is still progressing. already Mr. Wood is planning for the future. The next scheduled project is on in Cambridge where he has bought the Marks and Spencer store and an adjoining bank building which are Targe stone three and four story buildings. It will be a smaller scale development than Festival Square with five or six retail outlets on the ground floor. It's an area he plans to get more involved in. He feels there is a real market for the kind of retail space his development can offer. Most retailers don't need the large spaces that are normally available in downtown areas, he says and even if they get the larger stores, they Qften must make major changes to suit their needs. So it appears the trend to creating new shopping complexes in old downtown buildings is just beginning and Glen Wood expects to be in the forefront of the movement. At his age, he can be a leader for many years to come. ❑ Misconduct: No running. No walking. No exercise. No effort. Penalty—a shorter life. No argument. Fitness is fun. Try some.
