A wide variety of crafts and giftware, much of it made in Ontario
is featured in the shop.
while combining a vacation and business trip.
Handmade dolls and wooden toys are also among the things
offered by the shop.
The original idea was also to sell antiques in Crafty Ante. Like
Valerie's own crafts, however, this has disappeared as the
Youngs became more and more busy running their businesses.
Jim was to refinish the antiques but his own business soon used
up too much time. There are still some antique cupboards and
such in the shop but they're used only for display. She wouldn't
want to get rid of what few antiques she has left, Valerie says,
because they add so much more to the store than ordinary
shelving could.
Crafts are plentiful in the local area though few people are
trying to make a living on producing them. There are many
people who are doing professional -quality work as a hobby,
Valerie says. The magnet of the Bruce Nuclear Power
Development north of the town has brought in a tremendous
variety of people with many interests, she says.
