While it's more professional in the sense of having a Targe
Number of regular vendors, there are also some of the local growers
at Covent Garden that give you the flavour of men and women just
out of the field.
That kind of feeling in meeting the producer is stronger still at
Stratford Farmers' Market. The Stratford Market operates on
Saturdays only and isn't as large as the London market but it is
large enough that you get plenty of selection and you're dealing
mostly with the people who grew the produce. not merchants. The
market is housed in the market building at the Stratford Fair
Grounds but during the summer it tends to overflow and the parking
Fresh vegetables and fruit are among the attractions
farmers' markets, like these at the Stratford market.
