Village Squire, 1978-03, Page 26Greg Davidson, manager of Earl Rawson Limited in Goderich, said he also sees in the knit shirt a change in the style of the sleeve from a set in to a raglan sleeve. For the younger men, the tapered body shirt with long sleeves and the khaki military shirt look will be all the rage. The only significant change in the style of the conventional slightly flared leg pant, according to Bob Swartman, of Bob Swartman's Men's Shoppe in Exeter, is the width of the belt loops will be narrower, therefore belts will be narrower. The widest belt will be one and an half inches. In casual jackets, the unlined golf jacket, and the military khaki jacket for the younger generation will be in fashion. The tailored vested suit is still very strong. said Mr. Bennett. The current patterns in suits will be the plain suit in lighter shades and material, the business pin stripe suit and the small, neat subdued check suit. Popular suit colours will be beige, brown, powder blue, light mint green and grey, in light weight materials of wool, wool blends and wool -polyester blends. The vested suits will appear in two basic style variations. according to Mr. Campbell. Basically, the suits will be single-breasted, two button jacket, button front vest, with either knotched lapel and centre vent or peaked lapel and side vents. The accompanying slacks will be slightly flared with narrower belt loops. Lapels will also be slightly narrower at a three and an half inch width. "As far as formal wear is concerned, the leisure suit is out, and the co-ordinates are in," said Mr. Davidson. And according to Mr. Swartman, men are starting to wear sports jackets in either plain, pin stripe or quiet check pattern with an odd pair of slacks. Again light and pastel shades will be popular and sports jackets will be available in polyester and polyester wool blends. Dress shirts, designed to augment the vested suit, will emerge in three varied patterns of plain. subtle pin stripe and tiny print. To compliment the vested look, shirts will have long sleeves.a and the current colours will be white. egg shell, light blue and green. Dark shaded shirts will not be stylish this spring. The regular shirt collar will be predominate, with the button down collar surfacing. according to Mr. Davidson. In addition. a reverse blend in dress shirt material will appear with cotton as the leading fabric than polyester. Ross Gibson, managing director of Gentlemen's Corner in Wingham, believes the change in shirt material reflects a trend back to natural fibres. and the increasing price of polyester. as it is an oil base fabric. Neckwear this year will be colourful and somewhat bold to enhance the light coloured vested suit. Ties of a subdued stripe pattern in a variety of light shades will be the most prevalent. Tie widths will narrow: only slightly. to four and an half inches. and their fabric v. ill continue to be polyester. The style of men's spring top coats will remain relatively the same as previous years. Both the double and single breasted belted trench coat will be available in all weather polyester and cotton material. Colours showing will be beige. ivory tones and navy. And to fully complete a formal outfit. according to Mr. Davidson. puffs in the similiar pattern to the tie. gill be worn in the suit jacket pocket. In addition. Mr. Gibson sees the emergence of dress hats as an accessory for men's spring attire.
