Yet this training as a tailer is a big part of his business. The
backbone of his business is in the made -to -measure category.

has customers with hard to fit problems who come to him from all
over Western Ontario, from Goderich, Listowel, Exeter, St.
Marys and of course Stratford.
Many shops sell made -to -measure clothing. The customer is
measured and his measurements put down on special charts
which tell the cutters as the tailoring plant how the suit should be
made. The problem is that sometimes it isn't so simple. It takes
an experienced eye, Jack says, to spot problems in a customer
when he enters the store. One shoulder may be lower than the
other, for instance or the customer may stoop a little. Even
though made -to -measure clothing is designed to get around
problems of figures, the problem may be made worse if the
salesperson can't spot potential problems and can't measure
properly.
Many stores shy away from made to measure, Jack says
because of the difficulty in measuring. Many young people
entering the clothing business aren't trained how to measure.
They may have a quick lesson in measuring at a factory, but they
don't know how to size up the customer and know what has to be
