UP FRONT
The cold and snow is still with it but warm thoughts make us
think of spring. And what warmer thoughts than what people are
going to wear this spring and summer. The Easter parade may
be a little coolish this year with Easter in March(but we can hope
can't we), but it won't be long before the spring fashions are
blossoming on the streets of our towns and cities.
Goderich freelance writer Frances Barrick polled some of our
local shop owners this month to find out what local people would
be wearing this spring and summer. So many fashion reviews tell
you what will be worn in Toronto or New York. Frances will tell
you what will be "in" locally.
We have pages of photographic evidence to accompany the
fashion forecast with the help of two local shops, The Clothes
Closet in Goderich and The Wedge in Clinton.
Two of the people who will be selling those fashions are
featured this month. Jack Young has followed his grandfather
and father in the clothing business in Sebringville. Jack helps
many people who don't have the perfect figure to look good in
made -to -measure suits.
Loree Gammie. on the other hand, has been in business for
less than a year in Lucknow, but the young college graduate
disproves the idea that young graduates face a bleak future.
There are many other features this month. Our dining
reviewers visited the intimate environment of The Old Prune in
Stratford and liked what they found.
The business column talks about a book that could do a lot to
change the direction of Canadian economics policy and even the
pattern of Canadian life. It's Prof. Rein Peterson's: Small
Business, Building a Balanced Economy. And the Theatre
column takes a look at plans for a major expansion of Memorial
Hall in Blyth, home of the Blyth Summer Festival, that will make
the the,tre a more pleasant place both for audiences and for
production crews.
