Village Squire, 1977-12, Page 43countless gorgeous brochures, newspaper
and television ads and brief and guide
travel operators and travel agents toward
their destination.
How does this affect you - that's an
interesting point! Without a doubt Tourist
Boards make up the greatest untapped
wealth of vacation information available to
the public today.
Obviously the first place to go for
everyday simple information is your travel
agent. He knows how to get you there, and
all the fundamental what when and
where's! If however your requirements are
specialized and you are seeking obscure
information on hunting in Finland, or
camping in Afghanistan a few lines to the
appropriate Tourist Board will pay
handsome dividends. Say for instance you
wanted to stay for a week in one of
Britain's stately houses with Lord and Lady
"do dah", and you can you know, or you
were keen to attend a French wine festival,
here again the phone call or postcard to the
appropriate Tourist Board will bring forth a
goldmine of detailed information. Inform-
ation which can convert a disorganized
couple of weeks vacation into a memorable
event. Warning - don't be stupid about it,
don't ask the Tourist Board the fare to
London or -the frequency of the train from
Milan to Rome. Discuss your requirements
with the travel agent first! If he doesn't
have the information you require. ask him
for the appropriate Tourist Boards address.
Your agent will be delighted to help you.
They work together. Give the Tourist
Board time to reply, as we are all too well
aware your correspondence can take a
week to receive the reply, programme
yourself to allow a month. Tourist Boards
can be particularly helpful if you are
planning a church group, company or club
convention or vacation. For instance the
British Tourist Authority will work with
your agent to provide you with a complete
kit. If there are sufficient people they
would possibly arrange a special Medieval
banquet for the group, open doors for
hotels. arrange admission to other places
of interest. Much of the same philosophy
applies to most of the major foreign
boards. 0
