Village Squire, 1977-12, Page 24One of the reasons for his success, Tim feels, is the personal
service he offers his customers. He runs the shop by himself and
over the years has come to know his steady customers well, to
know their tastes and what would fit well into their home. He
tries to treat his customers well and offers a guarantee on
anything he sells. If they take something home and it doesn't
work, or doesn't fit in with the decor they can bring it back and
get a cash refund. It lets his customer buy with complete
confidence. he says. Companies providing quality merchandise
are easy to deal with he says, if a customer should find a flaw in
something. It's the tacky companies that Cause the problems, he

tourist couple this summer who asked a lot, but didn't buy and
he tended to think they were just wasting his time but months
later the husband turned up and bought $800 worth of china.
To help customers, he'll try to locate special items for them,
things they've seen in magazines or on television but no one
seems to stock.
This help in locating things extends to his interest in
decorating. Back in that 1974 story he expressed an interest to
get into decorating. not the actual work of putting on wallpaper
or floorcovering, but in helping design a total look for a room or a
house. He'll help people get special wallpapers and so on to
obtain that look.
He's put a lot of that knowledge and interest into decorating
his own shop. He picked up an artistic touch through the study of
art in high school and at the University of Windsor in his
hometown, before coming to the Clinton area in 1972. The touch
leads to expensive. yet subdued furnishing. He admits to
