We're prejudiced. we know, but there isn't a better place in
the world to spend the Christmas period.
For one thing, we have stunning winter beauty. Around any
corner. over any hill as you travel the high and back roads of the
area, you're likely to come upon a scene that will make you long
to be an artist who could stop and record the beauty forever on
canvas. We have country perfect for outdoor sports like
cross-country skiing and snowmobiling and we're close enough
to the hill country that•those who like downhill skiing don't have
far to go.
If it's shopping you want, this area includes some of the most
interesting variety anywhere. Besides the regular selection of
jewellery stores and clothing stores and hardwares, nearly every
town these days also has a few specialty gift shops featuring
interesting varieties of goods. Put altogether and you have a
selection that's fascinating and a shopping tour from one town to
another can be a happy event.
We took such a shopping tour this month, starting in Clinton
with its pretty little shops, moving south to Exeter then across to
St. Marys and back through Sebringville, Mitchell and Seaforth,
providing a wide variety of interesting places to shop.
Three small shops are also visited in our feature stories this
month. Elaine Townshend visits the Shakespearean Gift Shop in
Stratford, a small new shop. Two shops that are nearly veterans
of the small shop movement are Raintree Gallery in Clinton and
Country Flowers in Exeter. Tim St. Louis has recently expanded
his Raintree shop into one of the large old homes on the towns
main street. providing him with more space and an interesting
setting.
Jo -Anne Dinney in Exeter has expanded Country Flowers
about as far as the walls allow with every corner crammed with
living plants. Both are young, interesting- business persons with
merchandising skill and enthusiasm for their careers.
There are Christmas stories and many more interesting
articles in this month's issue. We hope you'll enjoy it.
And from all of us at Village Squire, to all of our readers, a
Very Merry Christmas.
