Village Squire, 1977-10, Page 18that type of atmosphere. A couple, or a family can have a drink
with their meal, but they're not interested in having people come
in to get drunk. However, they are always willing to give people
the things they require for a meal.
They have a good variety of wines both Canadian and imported
because they think it's nice for a family to have a bottle of wine
with their meal so it's there if somebody wants it.
Jim and Ted are very much interested in satisfying the needs
of their clientele. In fact, it's one of the reasons they keep such
long hours. You never know what time of morning, afternoon or
night somebody might want something to eat or drink and their
restaurant is there to fill that need.
The restaurant hours are weekdays from. 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.,
Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. t 1 p.m., and Sundays from 8
a.m. to 8 p.m., long hours for a small town restaurant. On
Sundays they have special menus.
But small town restaurants have their disadvantages as well.
It's farmers and industry who keep the business going in a small
town and September is not a good month for farmers and if their
business is bad, it also means a lack of business for the
restaurant.
Another disadvantage, Jim says is that a winter like last
winter cuts down on business because the people can't get to the
restaurant. He hopes though things will turn better in the future.
The two brothers bought their present building on the main
street of Wingham about two years ago. It was a former TV
appliance centre and the two men started building it up last
March. It took them about two -and -a -half to three months to fix
the building up. They did most of the renovations themselves
and opened up last, June.
Jim said that at that time, "We had a good response out of the
people. They liked it very much, still do in fact, I hope so," he
said.
Along with his brother Ted and his sister-in-law they employ
12 other people to help operate the restaurant.
Besides his previous mentioned experience at restaurants, Jim
also worked with a brother-in-law at the Berkley Restaurant in
Exeter and altogether has_ spent 14 years in the business.
