Village Squire, 1977-06, Page 33SQUIRE'S TABLE Stratford picnic tradition helped by The Cheese House We can quite confidently say, that the diningroom we chose this month is unequalled in its atmosphere. It's certainly spacious and it's colourful. It's relaxing and it's well airconditioned. The praiseworthy diningroom is not a room at all. but the beautiful parkland running along Lake Victoria below the Festival Theatre in Stratford. What about the food? Well with the heavy air of a late -May heat wave upon us we decided to try what has become almost a traditional Stratford event in the. summer: a picnic supplied by the Cheese House. Stratford visitors have for many years made a point of going out to the Cheese House on Erie Street to get essentials for a picnic lunch. In recent years the Cheese House has aided this trend by packing special picnic lunches. We decided to get 'the top of the line picnic box: the gourmet picnic box for two. Don't expect to just walk in and pick one up. They need three hours advance notice in order to get everything prepared. It's also not super cheap at $10 but you can get sandwiches for a lunch if you're not in the mood tor so big an expense. The wide variety of cheese and meats at the counter in the Cheese House will make you want to pick up something extra anyway. The picnic lunch comes in a specially designed. multi -sided box. Inside you'll find a cornish hen, glazed with cranberries and cut in half for easy dining. The bird is stuffed v: ith an orange dressing. There's a plate of salad greens with a cup of salad dressing. Another large plate contains the almond -rice salad garnished with orange pieces. It makes a tastey cool, finger-lickin' meal (not to worry a table cloth, paper plates and plastic knives and forks are included if you've got something against using your fingers.) There's a dessert for you too and if you want to stay away from things too sweet, it will be a delight. There's a fresh fruit plate and a pastry. And of course, as you'd expect from the Cheese House, there's a cheese plate with five different cheeses and biscuits. It makes an ample meal. To go along with the package and wet your whistle there's a bottle of imported Spanish grape juice. about as close to wine as you can legally get. for in the Park FATHER'S. The picnic tradition at Stratford will likely be even more of a tradition with this picnic box idea from The Cheese House. a71.6'.1 M 1 - .. u it...a,:-/ 1 -.
