Quebecois"?
The big celebrations start on June 29 and continue until
July 10. During that period there's something going on
practically from dawn till dusk - and later. The town will be a
riot of colour, and the sound of music will be everywhere.
Pageants, Little Theatre, historical plays by the collegiate,
talent shows. square and conventional dancing, and a rock
concert will be taking place both in and out-of-doors at various
places in town. The central square will be alive every day with
music, concession tents and gaiety, as old and new friends
gather at tables set out in the tree shaded park. An old time
steam locomotive will make a round trip from Guelph via
Blyth to Goderich, and while in Goderich will offer several
short excursions. An Air Show is also planned at the Goderich
Airport. with World War 11 vintage aircraft participating and
with participants from many parts of Canada and the United.
States.
And bands! On July 9, the big parade day, over 800
bandsmen will be taking part including some 200 Scottish
pipers - and a mini tattoo will take place after the parade.
Things won't be dull at the harbour either. A large midway
will be operating there, along with a festival tent, and
barhegftes. There will be a sail -past, visits by the
"Nottingham Castle" and the Canadian Coast guard. and a
Marine display.
Various dignitaries will be visiting Goderich during the
festivities to take part in some of the functions and just to join
in the fun.
Among the events planned are such diverse activities as a
memorial service (complete with Scottish piper) at "Tiger"
Dunlop's tomb, a re-enactment of the founding of Goderich at
Light House Park. a patriotic service, a bed race around the
Square, tours of local industries, a fiddler's contest, a fishing
derby, a tractor pull, a garden party, stage coach rides, a
shirt-tail parade, conducted historical tours. special church
services, a soap box derby. a beard contest, golf tournaments,
a country fair, boat rides on the Lake, and an outdoor
Citizenship Court.
The visitor will see rnounties in their scarlet tunics,
