150 years of history brings
big celebration at Godcrich
Goderich. To those familiar with the town, long known as
"The prettiest town in Canada," the name conjures up
visions of glorious sunsets, magnificent fishing, quiet
tree -lined meandering streets reminiscent of old England,
stately homes dating back to late Georgian and early Victorian
days, beautiful beaches, sailboats and long -liners at the
harbour.
Yes, Goderich is a wonderful town. Its people are warm,
hospitable and friendly. There the lover of Canadian history
will find one of the largest and best museums of pioneer days;
there he may visit an historic jail, built in 1839; there he may
see the tomb of Dr. William "Tiger" Dunlop, co-founder of
the Town, and at the same time view one of the most breath
taking panoramas in Ontario. There he may find precious
antiques, and shop in Courthouse Square - a unique eight
sided shopping centre still containing many of the original
stores.

visitor will find much, much more to interest and entertain

The folks of Goderich couldn't wait until June 29. They
started their warm up on New Year's eve, and hundreds of
citizens turned out at midnight in the Square to start their
town's birthday. And on New Year's Day they had many
levees. On May 19th a thousand of them danced to Guy
Lombardo. After all, what better place to hear "The sweetest
music this side of Heaven" than "The Prettiest Town in
Canada".
Of course they had to adopt their own Flag; visitors will see
this attractive Crown - adorned blue and white banner flying
everywhere in Goderich; and they minted their own "Tiger
Dunlop Dollar" in gold, silver and nickle. Some visitors will
be fortunate to acquire the nickle version. And wouldn't you
know! Their official programme of events for this year is
called "Passport to Goderich". Was it a coincidence that the
