Village Squire, 1977-06, Page 9Other people from out of town were usually visitors who
came in with their local friends.
"We're very pleased with the general public's reaction to
our shop." Mrs. Schultz said.
Along with the crafts, the Curiosity Shoppe also sells
Canadian books and children's books. They've even had one
author come in and autograph her books for people. That was
Vera McNichol, the famous clairvoyant from Millbank.
Besides the shop to keep them busy, both women have
other jobs. Shirley Schultz teachers art at the Milverton
Public School and Mary Mitchell does newspaper layout for
the Milverton Sun. Mrs. Schultz will only be teaching until
noon in the fall though. thus allowing her more time to be in
the shop.
The shop is open Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 11
a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday nights till 9 p.m. It is closed
Tuesdays. Wednesdays and Sundays.
Now that they've started the store what is it that Mary
Mitchell and Shirley Schultz enjoy about their work?
"People contact and helping people with crafts is
enjoyable." Mrs. Schultz said.
"The fact that you're promoting something local. The idea
in the beginning was to provide an opening for local
handicrafts," both women said.
Few of us are able to capture our real dreams. Mary
Mitchell and Shirley Schultz have set wings to theirs and with
the Curiosity Shoppe have given some local people a chance
to share in those dreams as well. ■
