Village Squire, 1977-05, Page 13Am} likes her father's colourful rocking horse. A local artist does the decorating. where he performed well until injuries began to mess up his career. The couple bought the farm while Tom was still playing hockey. Carol's parents had moved from Kitchener to the St. Marys area and Tom and Carol were looking in that area for a place to call home. They had just about given up when they got a call to come and look at the farm near Russeldale. They liked it and bought it. Every spring when the hockey season was over, they recall, they'd come back to the peace of the farm and wonder why they'd ever spent so much time in the city. Two years ago they decided enough was enough. Tom's years in college hockey had rewarded him with a degree in engineering and he thought he could get a job in one of the nearby cities of Stratford or London. He quickly found out it wasn't so easy and after a fruitless search took a job with a construction company in Stratford. Eventually, it was the January storms of 1976 that led to the end of that when Tom just couldn't stand battling bad driving conditions to get to work every day and home at night to his family. Necessity was the mother of The Country Craftsman.
