Village Squire, 1977-03, Page 22"little" dress is back in a big way.
Short lengths are just flirtations at the moment. The word is
"no" to the return of the mini (something Paris is pushing). A
better bet is the inch above the knee or inch below, mostly
according to preference. Handkerchief hems are new for
spring.
Waists are tied, wrapped, buckled and knotted, from wide
string buckled belts to sash wraps, soft plastic bow -ties to the
knotted rope kilt. The wide belt is important with full skirts.
Scarves are everywhere: The newest place to wrap it is the
hip. Huge scarves become the big ethnic cover-ups. Lots of
shawls, serapes and kerchiefs.
The cummerbund, the peasant sash and the obi are all ways
to wrap the waist with scarves. The sarong scarf will be the
big beach coverup again.
Hats: think "head coverings" instead. We're talking about
turbans, skull caps and hoods. The sun visor cap is a news
note for this spring.
Shoes: sleek and chic
Whether they're ladylike or fantasy -prone, the new shoes
are mostly sleek and feminine. The flat shoe is back looking
great with the new full skirts.
See it in ballerinas, fishermen sandals, espadrilles, little
open sandals. The sandal wins for daytime: with a higher heel
sexier feminine look, in all colors.
Open -toe slings, plain pumps, and lots of T -straps all go
with the new spring dressing. There are more variations on,
the espadrille wedge.
For evening: the see-through plastic shoe and the
ribbon -tied black satin high heeler are the new kickers.
• All in all, it's a great year for flattering your feet with high
"highs," low "lows," satin and toes and bows!

A crisply tailored jacket with slim, ease

this spring. A silk shirt and pocket kerchief
soften the lines.
