downstairs at Fryfogles. It's open Thursday
to Saturday (for now), and Derik Pearson is
playing Sept. 9-11. Watch for performers like
Michael Lewis and Colleen Peterson in the

THEATRE
Two summer -stock theatre groups at Grand
Bend and Blyth have niSw completed their
seasons, but the Shhkespearean Festival
continues through October 16.
FESTIVAL THEATRE
MERCHANT OF VENICE: A beautiful
heiress trapped by her dead father's will, a
stock figure of comedy'bursting the bonds, of
his expected role in the action and growing in
stature to tragic proportions, a multitaceted
friendship between an older and a younger
man, powerful courtroom drama pivoting on
the twin themes of justice and mercy of these
elements. Shakespeare has fashioned a play

THE TEMPEST: A magical romance hailed
by many as the crowning achievement of
Shakespeare's life as a poet. Starring William

HAMLET: Shakespeare's compelling tragedy
in a production that has the Festival's Young
Company augmented by two Hamlets and two

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST:
Last year's comedy hit at the Third Stage is
given the full treatment this year at the Avon
with William Hutt again as Lady Bracknell.

THREE SISTERS: This production of
Chekhov's drama about the trials of 19th
century Russian life features a stellar cast,
including Pat Galloway, William Hutt, and
Maggie Smith. Opened Sept. 1. Other

14, 15, 17, 18, 19 (matinee), 21, 22, 24, 25, 26
(matinee).
TOM KNEEBONE AND DINAH CHRISTIE,
TOGETHER AGAIN: Two of Canada's best
and best known revue performers team up
again in a summer -long run at The Church
Restaurant, Stratford. The salute to such
people as Cole Porter and Noel ,Coward is
performed Tuesday through Sunday until
Sept. 26.

The annual Shaw Festival, featuring the
works of'eminent-British playwright Bernard
Shaw runs from Sept. 1 through Sept. 26 at
the Festival Theatre at Niagara -on -the -hole.
Opening is Mrs. Warren's Profession,
starring Kate Reid and Barry Morse, playing
Sept. 1, 3. 4, (matinee), 8, 11, 12. The Apple
Cart opens Sept. 2, with other performances
