At the Eastwood the meat's the tops
Your reviewer ended up at the Eastwood
Restaurant and Tavern in Stratford almost by
accident. The destination had been another
Stratford restaurant but on arrival in the
Festival city it was found the place was closed
for holidays, so it was out to the east end for a
stop at the Eastwood.
One of the first pleasant things you notice
about the Eastwood is that there's no trouble
finding a parking spot with a big parking lot
out back.
The second thing is that the first timer can
get a little confused by the fact there is both a
restaurant and a lounge in the glass -fronted
building We took the restaurant and later
realized that the lounge would have been
more comfortable as far as decor and
surroundings went. The restaurant portion is
clean and well kept but a little dowdy. The
lounge, what we could see of it, looked much
more plush.
'But of course food is what we came for. We
started with a chef's salad with French
dressing. It was good though of an ordinary
nature.
The lady then ordered filet mignon and the
gentleman prime rib of beef. The filet came
on a steak board with a side plate for French
fried potatoes. The roast beef came in healthy
portions with French fried potatoes and some
lack -lustre frozen vegetables.
The meat was the highlight of the meal.
Both diners found it tender and tastey and'not
over cooked.
Dessert for the lady was a rich -looking
coconut cream pie and the gentleman had
butter pecan pie. Both were good but not
outstanding.
The bill for the meal came to $15.73 without
tip or drinks. The Eastwood receives high
marks for its beef, average for other aspects.
Still, not a bad accident to go there.
