Brochures have gone out in time for the Christmas season offering gift certificates which can be exchanged for tickets and many other momentos of the Festival. Next season, of course, promises to be a strong one at the box office, barring the whims of the economy, as such major stars as Maggie Smith, Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy and John Calicos walk the boards. The Festival Theatre next year will feature The Merchant of Venice, Anthony and Cleopatra (starring Miss Smith as Cleopatra), A midsummer Night's Drbam, The Way of the World and a repeat of Measure for Measure from the 1975 season. Over at the Avon theatre Robin Phillips and William Hutt will co -direct Hamlet and The Tempest. Mr. Hutt will also join the young company for the latter and such main stage favourites as Pat Galloway, Pat Bently-Fisher, Richard Mon- ette and Nicholas Pennell will take part in Hamlet. Mr. Hutt will make his appearance again as Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest which will undergo a full-scale revival after appearing at The Third Stage in 1975. An original play The Book of Eve, adapted by Larry Fineberg from Constance Beresford-Howe's novel about Eve who sets off at age 65 to discover who she really is, will also be included in the Avon season. The final presentation will be Three Sisters by Chekhov. Music London Youth orchestra to visit Scotland If all goes well, the London Youth Orchestra will be on its way to Aberdeen Scotland next August to take part in the International Festival on Youth orchestras. But first there's the little matter of rising $72,000. That's how much it will cost the members of the orchestra to travel to Scotland. It doesn't seem like so much however when you figure the cost of travel for orchestras from Japan, New Zealand and the Fiji Islands. Orchestras from all over the world live in residence at the University of Aberdeen during the festival. It gives the orchestra members a great chance to meet people from 'other countries, exchange know-how and perform in Scotland and London, England. Joy Buyer, secretary-general of the International Festival of Youth Orchestras visited London recently to speak about the festival to parents and young people involved. She had been around the world on her tour talking to people from all the countries that will be represented. She was able to assure everyone that the Gifts t; for all occasionstl. tq ti ti Greeting Cards: (Coutts, Hallmark, Rustcraft) Gift Wrapping and Decorations Games, Toys and Puzzles Table Decoration LARONE'S MAIN ST.
