Village Squire, 1975-12, Page 36On Contemplating the Navel
Oh dimple in that smooth expanse
Remind me, only as thou canst,
If in great Wealth or Power I roll,
That one time I was on the dole;
That once 1 dwelt in darkest night
Not knowing such a thing as Light.
And now should Fortune's bright Light glow
Remind me, 'twas not always so.
When I am discontent with fare,
And crave Foods, various and rare,
Remind me that my total Board
Once came through just a single Cord.
Dear Reader, might 1 here deduce
Thar Everything is of some use.
The Navel is, if we would see,
A Teacher of Humility.
But if we don't let this sink in
It's just a Scar upon the Skin
And like more Teachings at our hand
Is gone, for we don't understand.
The Common Things that we might use
To broaden and extend our Views
Woud, by enlarging our life's Role,
Improve the Welfare of the Whole.
What of your Life? Is it well spent?
Or just a Tint -collecting Dent?
THIS WINTER
