used so that the house will look like it did
originally.
If they'd known what they were in for,
Dorene admits, they'd never have gone in for
all that work. And, she says, they'd never do
it again. Even now she says there is still a lot
to be done, but the house has to compete with
the effort to paint and sculpt and craft to have
enough merchandise for the studio. It often
loses, if the stock of the shop has any
indication.
The Kilburns originally bought and
re -finished antiques but are getting out of it
more and more. For one thing, the cost is
prohibitive these days. For another, it takes a
lot of time Orme would rather be spending on _
sculpting or painting. This year the shop
features some reproduction pieces of period
Canadian furniture.
They've enjoyed the first season of the
shop and are looking forward to a better one
for the second. They opened in July la!sc year
and quite a few people found their way to the
shop. They found the business a lot of fun
letting them meet new people.
How good a future does the business have?
Well, they don't really know. They like to be
able to eventually make enough money ifrom
the shop to devote the full time to crafts but
realize how big a goal that is. They'd also like
to keep selling their own work as much as
possible and not branch into selling other
people's works. And they like the qu iet
country location and wouldn't want to Abe
where there was more traffic. But what ever
they do, they'll do it together.
