intimate shops with about 150 square feet of
space.
Yet there was obviously a need for such a
shop in Listowel. The store did a good
business. Sandy credits a good deal of
success to Marion Duke, editor of the
Listowel Banner who wrote an article in the
paper and free-lanced the stories to
neighboring dailies. The publicity brought
many women to the shop she says who like to
"discover" little shops on trips from one area
to 'another and would never have found the
little shop if they'd just been passing
through. Word of mouth helped spirad the
word.
Now that the store has moved to a main
street location, its prospects look even better.
It is well filled with stock and a good many of
the items are locally produced. There are
some warming success stories in the shop.
For instance, among the best seller are
barnboard paintings done by a local woman.
Sandy first saw the paintings at the Atwood
hobby show and offered to buy them for the
shop. She felt the painter was under charging
and so gave her more than she had originally
asked. The paintings have sold well and the
arrangement has worked out well for both of
them.
