Triple K Restaurant is a place
where you won't be embarassed
with the kids
If you go out to an exclusive diningroom
like The Mill in Benmiller, you can't take the
kids along. There are many other fine places
where children are allowed, but you feel
uncomfortable and even embarassed with the
children along. But you can feel completely at
home with children at a restaurant like the
Triple K Restaurant just on,the edge of Blyth.
Kay and Keith Hesselwood (the other K is
their son) built the restaurant just over a year
ago. Kay had been in the food business for a
good part of her life, working in various hotels
in the area and so she had plenty of
experience and knew just what she wanted
when she built her own place.
It's a little out of the way on Huron County
Road 25 a few blocks east of Highway 4, but
many people have found their way to its door
in the past year. It looks quite small on the
'outside, a little house -like building, but inside
it's surprisingly spacious.
It's not a shirt and tie kind of place, but
more an old jeans and sweater type: a place
where you can feel comfortable no matter
what you're wearing.
Yet it's no greasy spoon, either in the
appearance or the food.
Recently this reviewer and family dropped
in for a supper. Two children, four and two
years old, can raise a lot of havoc in a
restaurant, but in the Triple K the
atmosphere is more like sitting at home in
your dining room than being in a strange
place.
The staff at the restaurant is warm and
friendly and you don't feel so embarassed
having children who don't see anything
wrong with talking at the top of their voices in
restaurants.
The reviewer chose the roast beef dinner
and the lady chose veal cutlet. The children
had hotdogs and french fries. A rarity in
restaurants these days was the home made
soup that preceded the main course. It was
spicy and thick with chicken and veeetahles
The roast beef was not to a gourmet's taste,
being a little over -cooked and kept warm for
some time, but then you have to expect that in
a restaurant that is open from seven in the
morning to 11 at night. The lady enjoyed the
veal, though she found it a little tough. She
chose mashed potatoes, though she was
warned they were instant mashed (the kind of
warning you don't often get) and wished
afterward she had voted for the french fries.
Frozen vegetables. accompanied the meal as
did a small, simple, salad.
For dessert, it was Dutch apple pie for the
man and mince meat pie for the lady. Like
most restaurant apple pie, this was not as
good as mother used to make, probably made
from a canned filling. The mince meat,
however, won higher praise.
Total cost: $7.35.
It was a meal that confirmed opinions
formed in earlier visits to Triple K: it's a
good, last minute, spur of the moment take
'em out to supper place.
