THE GALLERY/STRATFORD
The Gallery/Stratford will be showing until
January 12 Five Printmakers from Toronto
and Doreen Fosters' illustrations to
"Nanabozho and his Brother".
Five Printmakers is an exhibition of recent
work in etching and serigraphy by Ed
Bartram, Henry Dunsmore, Doreen Foster,
Jo (Rothfels) Manning and Katharine Hunt.
All five artists will attend the opening
preview on Friday, December 13 at 8:00 p.m.
The show highlights the remarkable diversity
of work possible in the medium which in turn
underlines the individuality of the artists.
Jo Manning is the doyenne of this group
and has been an established and much noted
artist for many years. Her works are present
in most of Canada's major collections and is a
consistent award winner. She has exhibited
internationally including the Venice Biennale
(1972) and in Buenos Aires at the Biennale of
Engraving (1970, 1972).
Ed Bartram was born in London, Ontario in
1938 and studied in Switzerland and the
University of Toronto, receiving his M.A. in
1964. He is a member of the Canadian Society
of Painters, Etchers and Engravers and other
professional organizations. His recent work
' draws upon the powerful rhythms of the
scoured rock of the Canadian tundra. He has
shown widely and on many occasions in
Canada and the United States and his works
are held in both public and private
collections.
Katharine Hunt, Henry Dunsmore and
Doreen Foster are contemporaries but whose
work is widely divergent.
Concurrent with this exhibition is a
showing of Doreen Fosters' illustrations to
the childrens' story "Nanabozho and his
Brother" published by Holt, Rinehart and
Winston. The illustrations, watercolours,
comprise one of Miss Fosters' commissions.
This exhibition is for the children at
Christmastime and will be hung especially for
children.
Both exhibitions continue until January 12,
1975.
HEIM GALLERY
Guenther Heim has cperated his gallery north
of Wingham for nearly two years but if you
want to see the whole show you'd better go
soon. In the new year he plans to close the
separate gallery building because of the costs
of keeping it going and will operate only a
small gallery in his home. Until then, travel
north of Wingham on Highway 4, one mile
and watch for the signs.
GREEN GALLERY
A small private gallery on St. Patrick Street in
Goderich emphasizes the works of Jim
Marlatt and some other area artists. Mr.
Marlatt, decided in 1972 to make his painting
hobby a full time job. His rural sketches are
widely distributed and he also does water
colour work. Open evenings or by
appointment.
